World first: Mix of high-pile and flat-woven fabrics generates homely character from office through to living.

The gist of the matter: Plush is a thing of the past a revolutionary mix of minimal and sumptuous, a touch of Chanel and a pinch ofpopcorn – Eco Iqu S is an example of how carpets can be con-ceived in new ways. The innovation was created during its two-year development period: a minimal flat-woven fabric, from which the lops literally grow. Whether a drifting school of fish in the ocean or exquisite bouclé couture – there are no limits to association. The yarn construction consists of matt and shining threads, while the surface gets its depth effect from the visibly designed woven sub- surface. This new mix of high-pile and flat-woven fabrics is a revolu-tion for the floor. Not plush but a technoid textile adds a new home-liness to the office, hotel or private home. Produced in Germany in a resource-saving way. Eco Iqu S – Adieu tristesse!

The designer: Developing tomorrow and beyond appeals to Thomas Trenkamp. His designs are first and foremost driven by his desire to produce extremely textile products and exhaust the technological possibili-ties of the material at that. The large number of design awards his developments have won prove the significant fact that form and function are complementing.

Flexible zoning and accentuation

The modular possibilities of the carpet tile as well as new materials and processing technologies mean that they are increasingly high-lighted as design products. Together with the globally operating office of Hadi Teherani, Carpet Concept has reconceived this prod-uct as a design element. The key question was: How can we inspire architects and interior designers? The answer: a “set of shapes for designing architects”. Perfectly tailored for the flexible zoning and accentuation of rooms, areas or atmospheric open spaces in the office 4.0.

Mix organic

A consistent innovation – Mix Organic. This collection is charac-terised by freer shapes: organic tiles presenting an orthogonal respectively wave form. The objective was to take the innovative approach of Carpet Concept on step further, to create elegance and an innovative rhythm with this new collection.

Mix geometric

A world premiere of Japanese inspiration: the new Mix Geometric tile collection comprises generous formats and shapes. Its size, un- usual for western standards, opens up new horizons for designs on the floor. For example the 2 x 1 metre large carpet tile, which is inspired by the traditional Japanese interior design using tatami mats. Derived from this in decimal degrees, Mix Geometric features another five, slightly smaller rectangular formats. If these modules are laid tone in tone or in plain colours with different surface struc-tures according to the mix & match principle, an endless number of exciting tiling options arises.

MATCH – Carpet tiles:Dimensions of modular floor concepts

The best product ideas often arise by pure chance. Such was also the case at the end of the 1950s when carpet tiles were first devel-oped in the Netherlands. People searched for possibilities of how to sensibly use leftover pieces, which accumulated when cutting saddle pads from jute and felt. Even though the carpet tile did not originate from a specific product vision regarding a modular textile floor covering, the idea of its modularity testifies the innovative spirit and the zeitgeist in those days: the first open-plan offices evolved, first modular office furniture were conceived. And carpet tiles perfectly fitted in with this new working environment: as prac-tical, sound-absorbing floor covering – easy to transport and easy to install. However, the triumph did not last for long. The debut ver-sion of the carpet tile was not dimensionally stable. It shrunk when it was cold, it expanded when it was warm – in the long term, the carpet tile was not suited to cover larger floor areas. The product was further developed and finally equipped with a dimensionally stable polyester/felt coating. This was the precondition that in the 1970s the carpet tile could fly high again. In the new high-rise office buildings in America, a space used to accommodate electrics, air- conditioning and heating installations was for the first time con-structed between the single office floors. Revision doors provided access to these intermediate floors. Consequently, a flexible floor covering made of carpet tiles suggested itself. Nonetheless, the modular floor covering was still not able to make the sustained breakthrough: the polyester backing contained too many pollut-ants. So the product almost fell into oblivion. Zoning and staging in the meantime, this problem was also solved and a true success story begins because with the lifestyle of the rapidly changing 21st century the idea of a modular, textile floor covering has even more relevance as at the time when it was originated. Flexibility, mobility, scalability as well as easy replacement, individuality, sus- tainability with optimum performance – these are attributes, which are demanded for contemporary office solutions. After all, we more and more often live and work in open-plan interiors. The boundaries are flowing, regardless whether at home - where living, sleeping, work or kitchen areas merge into one another - or in the open-space office, where most different work areas, lounges, relaxation and meeting areas are integrated in a single open space. We need pos- sibilities to define areas visually and tactually and optimise their acoustic quality. It is necessary to create zones, to possibly loosen up strict floor plans and support a room atmosphere in places ac-cording to current trends. Carpet tiles provide the option to repeat-edly implement a modular redesign of the floor without any great effort and especially in offices flexibly adapt it to the respective

current circumstances. Especially young business concepts and start-ups benefit from these advantages if changes, an expansion or even a move to new premises are foreseeable. Floor design to go: carpet tiles can be easily removed and laid again at a different location. Inspiring modular mix The robust, low-pollutant back coat-ing of the high-quality tiles by Carpet Concept ensures stability and durability. A deliberate exchange is possible at any time, not least because the processed yarns show a high level of colourfast-ness. Adapted to the respective use, the carpet tile collections by Carpet Concept can be harmoniously conceived, so that different formats, patterns, colours, and structures can be combined in ever new compositions. For planners and architects this means: there are no limits to individual floor design. Particularly the new carpet tile generation XX by Carpet Concept thrives on this multifaceted-ness: thanks to innovative laser processing technologies, Carpet Concept is, for example, able to weld the edges even more precise-ly so that no fraying on the edges can occur. This also means: de-parture from the original, square or rectangular tile shapes. Carpet Concept now additionally provides amorphous and asymmetric tile shapes, which can be combined with one another. Even a com-bination of tile and broadloom, of tufted and woven products can be implemented has become feasible and gives flooring concepts completely new, exciting dimensions.

Creative togetherness or focused work: CAS Rooms create quiet exactly where it is needed. Whether ‘We-rooms’, ‘I-rooms’ or creative input station: the textile room system adapts office areas to individual requirements. And if they change? No problem. In that case, the flexible modules of CAS Rooms simply change to reflect this.

Typing, making phone calls, discussing: occupational safety pays primary attention to disturbing and background noises. People who are distracted need more time to warm up and work their way into a task, and their performance curve is permanently reduced. Up to 28 percent effective working time are lost every day.

CAS Rooms helps you to create peace and quiet exactly where it is required. It is not for nothing that good acoustics and a minimi-sation of noises rank very high when it comes to the description of the “ideal workplace”.

CAS Rooms can do both: the textile room system designs flexible office areas and acoustically optimises them. Consequently, the need for new rooms, individuality or changes no longer need to turn into an organisational disaster but are a walk in the park. Whether communication or concentration, transparency or confi-dentiality – the supposed contrasts can be easily solved with the 27 modules of CAS Rooms. The room system creates working areas where they are needed – or changes them again. The modular con-cept sets no bounds to the freedom of design. That way you keep on top of everything: communication and work situations, the wish for constants as well as variability.

The textile room systems of CAS Rooms meanwhile rank among the most efficient acoustic and structural measures. A system like an intelligent swarm – it adapts itself, grows or gets smaller. Regard-less of the purpose, the freestanding spatial module is assembled or dismantled within a short time.

This is how you can respond to new working environments, the challenges resulting from digitalisation, promptness and complex-ity with confidence. CAS Rooms is as variable as your company. From “My-room” to a “We-room”, from closed meeting cubicle to decision-making box. Intelligent, universal and geared to the new millennium.
