Professional Locksmith… perhaps?
How many mes have we heard this. “If you don’t have a key, we will just change out the lock”. Maybe you have
said that yourself. Have you ever heard someone say, “The keys to my car were lost and I had someone else put in a new
ignion lock and now I don’t have a key to my doors and trunk.” How do you, answer them? “I can change out all your
locks but you won’t have just one key that work all your locks like you did before you lost your keys.” Many locksmiths
seem to be ge'ng more and more specialized and doing less and less for the homeowner type customer. What I mean is
that they are no longer catering to those who have small jobs or odd jobs. Many shops turn away the small jobs thinking
that these jobs are not cost effecve. Some have the a'tude. “Let someone else do it, I don’t want to waste my me
when I could be making big money.” What you may fail to realize is that these small jobs are the test. The customer may
be tesng you and or your company to see how you handle the small job before they give you a much bigger job. Those
small jobs or odd jobs are what gives your shop a reputaon, whether good or bad. So what have we become?
Professional “Locksmiths” or Parts Changer? It doesn’t take much to change out a knob or a lever. But how many of you
can trouble shoot the problem, and then fix it? Take pride in your profession. Be the “SMITH” that you trained to be.
Make us proud. Get more educaon.
This Friday is meeng me, hope to see you there. Your President, Mike Middick

Time seems to fly by.
Lets face it, me is not on our side, somemes. This month is no different, here a quick update
on my house. The old one is now someone else's. This finally went through the middle of June and
our new house became ours the week a6er. So, now we are spending most of our me moving
stuff. Most of the kitchen has been moved, as well as a lot of the other rooms. Although we sll
need to get rid of our ‘Goodwill Donaon’ stuff, and I’m guessing it will be two or three truck loads,
then we need to deal with the tools and big machines. Then I went to park my truck in the garage,
and you would never have guessed that my truck will not fit. So we are having another garage built,
hopefully it will be completed by the end of July. This rebuild is not so bad, unl we realized that we
do not have a place for my stuff, before the garage get rebuilt. Looks like the storage lot wins this
one, it’s just a pain to store stuff for a week and then move it again into the new garage. Anyway we
are moving into a great li4le rancher just south of church.
Come join us for the hands-on training this month, we will be dealing with a gate lock at the
church.

2012 Jeep Liberty
Door Lock Removal
This may seem like a simple task, and that is where you would be wrong. If you have a
need to rekey a 2012 Jeep Liberty door lock, read on, this is what I found last month. I had
to learn a new skill, I needed to learn how to remove the glass from the door. Even though
you can see 10 bolts that seem to hold the interior door panel in place, it accomplished
nothing. Here’s how it’s done, you roll the window down, then remove the molding (the
part that squeezes the bo4om of the window) it’s near the bo4om of the glass. Once this is
done you roll the window halfway up, with the molding gone you can see a white place tab
(see the white arrow in the bo/om/right photo). It is all that holds the wind on place, you
use a plasc tool to pry up on it and it releases the widow. Pull the widow out and set it in
the back seat.
A6er the windows out this gives you about an inch and one-half to unscrew a single
bolt. It is relavely easy, and a magnet is real handy when doing this. Once the bolt is
removed there is a plasc clip holding the linkage rod, this snaps off. A6er it’s loose, the
lock slides out relavely easy, from this point it’s simple to remove and reinstall the lock.
Both the door and the ignion lock are typical Chrysler 8 cut and require no extra
knowledge to rekey. The keying kit is a standard Chrysler 8 cut kit. This vehicle does require
a RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) and you can use a standard transponder key, but doing so will
require the owner to lock and unlock the door every me the alarm goes off.

Training for July meeng.
We will be working on the front gate lock at the Church. We
need to make the lock & keys work once more. This lock started have issues a
short me ago. The symptoms are; scking and hard turning keys.
Recently the lock was replaced with an Everest Primus, IC (Interchangeable
Core) lock to match the St. Joseph’s master system, this system was change a few
years ago by the CSCLA. Once the IC core lock was changed on the gate, it did not
work well, and this is the poron we will be addressing in the “hands-on” training.
This will give everyone an opportunity to see the installaon that needs to be
corrected, as well as training for the next me. The style of lock is a panic bar,
with a IC Core rim cylinder style lock.
Don't miss this educaonal event next Friday, the 15th. Thanks, Paul Arens

1969 Mini Cooper
If luck was with me, it surely was on this day! I was asked to come out and make a
key for a car and I forgot to ask what type. When I arrived I was lead a crossed the street
to a big building. Here’s the tough part, it was one of the ho4est day so far this year and
this Mini was inside, I was out of the sun and in an air condioned space. I kept
imagining the worst, this old junker probably had a different key for every lock. So I
grabbed my Pippin and a few blanks. Got on my knees, for an old guy that was tough, I
proceeded to file the marks and within a few strokes the key turn. So I went back to the
van cut the proper key with the code machine and crossed my fingers.
That Mini Copper had all the original locks
in it! I was done within a few minutes. Not to
o6en we get to work when everything falls
into place without a hitch. I guess it was my
lucky day.
SPRING CLEANING I know it's a li4le late for spring cleaning but here goes. I
have a large number of hardback code books. Mostly Reed
but also some HPC.
This is the deal: any book $10 and 100% of the proceeds
will go the ALOA scholarship foundaon.
