“All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence and than success is sure”.– Mark Twain. It gives me immense pleasure in bringing out the VII Volume of ‘XTASY’ successfully. Extracting talents, ideas, skills from different fields was a difficult task but we finally made it possible. This edition of the newsletter highlights the academic brilliance of the students in the tenth and twelfth class board exams. I would like to express my deep gratitude to our President, Mr. Ratul Das for his encouragement to overcome all obstacles that come our way. I would like to thank our Principal Dr. Geeta Dutta Baruah for her constant support and guidance in grooming me into the editor’s position of the newsletter. I also thank the editorial board for their whole hearted contribution for the success of the VII volume of ‘XTASY’ and look forward to unrelenting support in future. I am delighted with the schools initiative to publish this newsletter covering our various academic activities, workshops and achievements. I am sure that this issue would give the readers a fair idea about the various academic and co-curricular activities of the students. Inter-school Borgeet Competition.

An inter-school Borgeet competition was held at Shrimanta stShankar Academy Senior Secondary School, Dispur on 21

April 2018 in memory of the founder president of the

institution Late Bina Chowdhury. Students from 19 schools

participated in the competition. The judges included eminent

Borgeet exponents Khona Das, Ananta Ojah and Krishna

Goswami. The chief guest for the occasion was noted music

composer Ramen Choudhury. The first prize was bagged

jointly by Shreya Das and Bimrisha Bimal from Shrimanta

Shankar Academy. The second prize went to Krishnav Deka from Delhi Public School, while Debanga Raj

Kalita from St. Franci’s D’ Assisi Senior Secondary School

bagged the third prize.

Shankarian Wins Accolades

The school was certified as one of the 3 best schools of the state

in the Wipro Earthian research based project, 2017 which was

organized by Envis Hub, Assam under Assam Science

Technology and Environment Council. A total of seven groups

of students from VIII & IX have worked on the project “Sustainability of Biodiversity and Sustainability of

Water”.

The school participated in the recently held inter-school Mass th

display cum March Past competition on 18 December, 2017 at

Lnipe, Tepesia, Sonapur. About 70 students took part in the

competition after a practice of 1 month and succeeded to bagged

the third position in both March past and Mass display. This was

completely a new exposure to the students and it was of great

benefit to them in terms of co-ordination and discipline.

Best School Award

Bhaxar Uza Hemchandra Xuoroni Xestha Vidyalaya Bota” was

awarded to the school for promoting and expanding education in thAssam on 18 February 2018. The prize has been awarded by

Child magazine ‘Sofura’ and was received by the Principal Dr.

Geeta Dutta Baruah at Kalaguru Vishnu Rabha auditorium.

Akangsha Konwar of class 9 has participated in KAI Cadet, Junior & under 21 years National Karate Championship- 2018 held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi and was placed second in Female, Individual Kumite Event in Cadet-40 kg weight category.

Power Fitness Competition : Idnan Ahmed of class 9 bagged thsecond prize in a Power Fitness Competition on 19 January,

2018. The competition was organized by Stay Fit Live Pure Fitness Academy powered by Biofit Gym at Phuleswari Indoor Stadium, Dispur.

Bimrisha Bimal of class 8 bagged the second prize in state level Borgeet Competition organized in memory of Guru Murari

stMohan Sharma on 1 April 2018 at Tirtha Nath Sharma Auditorium, Chandmari.

Devapratim Saikia and Kakshya Kanti Saikia, both from class 9 bagged the first position in the painting and slogan competition which th rdwas held on the occasion of 30 anniversary of the Montreal Protocol and 23 World Ozone Day by Assam Science Technology and

Jyotirmoy Bhagawati of class 7 secures first position at a drawing competition on “Conservation of Ground Water’ organized by the Central Ground Water Board in Guwahati in March, 2018. Jyotirmoy is going to represent the state at the national level drawing competition to be organized under the Union Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Conservation at New Delhi.

st ndCo-curricular activities of the senior secondary section was held on 21 and 22 Dec. 2017. The school organized various events like Rangoli making competition, cooking competition, quiz competition, poster making competition and photography competition. The students took part in the competitions with keen interest.

nd rdAnnual Day was celebrated in the school auditorium on 22 and 23 Dec, 2017 for the primary and secondary and senior secondary section respectively. The chief guests for the occasion were Dr. Swapon Duarah, eminent educationist and Mrs. Bandita Phukan, first lady Mechanical Engineer of Assam. All the rank holders of class XII Board exam, CGPA 10 pointers of class x, class rank holders, highest attendance were honoured on the day with certificates. The best Academian award was conferred to the academically brilliant student of class 10 along with the Teacher’s Choice award. A cultural programme comprising dances, songs, skits and recitation was presented by the students of all the 3 sections.

thA programme on cyber security was organized at school on 9 January, 2018 to increase awareness on cyber threats. The programme was conducted by Mr. Dipak Das, Inspector, CID, Assam and Mr. Nayan Moni Das, Sub-Inspector, CID, Assam. They spoke on various cyber security issues and also guided the students as well as the teachers to improve their cyber security knowledge and skills.

Now, a newly launched digital news app was held on 11 January, 2018 at the school library. The programme was also attended by Mr. Bijayananda Chowdhury, Member secretary of Shrimanta Shankar Academy Society. Mr. Roy said the news app will make it easier for us to keep up with the latest news of North East India and he also requested all teachers to contribute news items to promote the region at the global level.

thThe students of Comp. Sc. and IP of class XI visited IIT, Guwahati on 5 January, 2018 as a motivational tour. The students were accompanied by two teachers of the senior secondary section. The trip was very informative as the students got to know about various courses in the IITs.

thFarewell function of class XII was held on 12 January, 2018. The chief guest for the occasion was Dr. Jayanta Das, a renowned psychiatrist of the city. The programme started with the prize giving ceremony for various CCA competitions and sports and ended with a colourful cultural show.

Republic Day 2018 was celebrated at the academy with much enthusiasm. The principal of the school Dr. Geeta Dutta Baruah hoisted the tricolor in presence of the students and teachers. The National Anthem was sung by a group of students and a speech was delivered by the principal.

A visit was made to Archaeological Department of Assam at Panbazar on 13th of June 2018 by the students of History Department of class XII. They also visited the State Museum and the trip was quite beneficial as they could also witness the excavated sites.

ndSaraswati Puja was celebrated with great fervour on 22 January, 2018 at the school premises. All teachers and students gathered at the school to seek blessings and the celebration came to a close with distribution of prasad and bhog.

th thAnnual Sports Day of the primary section was held from 6 to 9 Feb. 2018 in the school playground. The day started with flag hoisting by the Vice Principal. Members of the Power Fitness Group interacted with the students and encouraged them by showing fitness sessions.

th thA teacher training programme was conducted for the teachers of the academy in the school library on 24 and 16 nd rd th

March and 2 , 3 , and 4 April, 2018. The programme focused on Child Centric Education, Impact of Social Media on Students and preventive measures, Class Room Management to name a few. The speakers at the programme were Dr. Geeta Dutta Baruah, Principal, SSA Dispur; Arun Kumar and Anamika Sharma, Ratna Sagar Publication; Amrita Basu and Susoven Dasgupta, Cambridge University Press. A total of 120 teachers attended the programme.

An oath taking ceremony was administered for the students of primary, secondary and senior secondary section th th thon 7 May, 5 May and 28 April 2018 respectively to abide by the rules and regulations and to maintain the

discipline and decorum of the school. The principal conducted the oath which was taken by the students.

thThe school observed World Environment Day on 5 June 2018 in the premises by planting 150 varieties of saplings. Care Luit Organization, an NGO donated a total of 120 varieties to the school and Najrul Islam, PGT Physics also donated 30 saplings. Kamalakanta Nath, Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Transformation and Development ; CEO, State Innovation and Transformation Aayog, Assam ; Rajat Kamal Award winner Utpal Borpujari and Kishore Jayanta Madhab, Rituraj Bora and Utpal Das of Care Luit were also present at the programme. As the theme for World Environment Day 2018 is ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’, the principal during her address appealed to the students of the school to reduce use of plastic & to make the environment healthier.

It is a matter of great pride that for the first time the school has introduced a ‘Bagpiper Marching Band’. The team was trained by skilled instructors from Police Battalion, Abhayapuri the month of June, 2018.

stThe school observed World Yoga Day in the school premises on 21 June, 2018 where around 2700 students along with teachers and more than 200 non-teaching staff participated. Manisha Sarma and Samiran Kalita, representatives of Assam State Technology and Environmental Council (ASTEC) were the chief guest in the programme.

A drama workshop was organized by National School of Drama (NSD) at the school in the month of July, 2018. A total of 90 students from different schools participated in the workshop. The resource persons present from NSD were Swan Rauth, Walter Peter, Kailash Chouhan, Manik Roy, John Kalita and Shristi Sharma. Mr. Samundra Gupta, scriptwriter and director, Mr. Pranjal Saikia, noted film actor and Moinul Haque, mime actor were also present in the valedictory function.
