The Florida Marlins Community Foundation raises funds for Cornerstones for Kids…Building a Brighter Future through Education, the Arts and Baseball. Since its inception, FMCF has given back over $7 million to the South Florida Community. The charitable purpose of the Florida Marlins Community Foundation, a public charity, is for educational, athletic, health, social and community service programs with a particular focus on South Florida’s youth.

South Florida non-profits are invited to apply for a grant from the Florida Marlins Community Foundation. The next deadline for submission is October 31, 2010. Grants are judged on how the proposal relates to one or more of the Cornerstones: Education, the Arts and Baseball or Softball. In order to receive an application and instructions, email [email protected]. For more information on how to apply and view photographs of former recipients visit www.marlins.com/grants.

Thanks to Marlins Fans like you, the Mar l ins Communi ty Foundation has been able to welcome over 60,000 children to Marlins games during the last six seasons through the Fans Care program. Through your help we were able to raise over $22,000 and were able to provide 2,500 children

with the opportunity to attend a game. The top donors from the 2010 Fans Care Weekend were recognized during a pre-game ceremony on Sunday, August 22nd. A big warm THANK YOU to all who supported Fans Care Weekend!

The Marlins and Food For The Poor launched Homes for Haiti on July 6th, a month-long fundraising initiative aimed to building much-needed housing in Haiti. The goal of the campaign is to raise funds to build a village consisting of 25 two-room houses and the installation of sanitation and water projects. Marlins Catcher, John Baker and members of the Marlins front office toured Cap-Haitien, home of the relief project, along with the Shada Community, a town composed of 3,500 homeless families, some of which will be housed by the Marlins project. The Marlins group also distributed lunches to orphans of the St. Louis Orphanage and visited a shelter for handicapped children and the Food For The Poor feeding complex. Back at home, the Marlins hosted a Haiti Relief Awareness Day on July 23rd at Sun Life Stadium where a portion of each ticket sold that night went towards the program. Waste Management recently joined the Marlins ―Homes for Haiti‖ efforts with a $50,000 donation to help build the much-needed housing in Haiti.

The Marlins hosted the RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) Southeast Regional Tournament presented by KPMG at Roger Dean Stadium and the Lake Catherine Sports Complex July 29 - August 1. The 2010 season marked the ongoing commitment between the Florida Marlins, Major League Baseball and KPMG, to ensure that local youth have the opportunity to play baseball and softball. A total of 12 teams from five different cities in the Southeastern region of the United States, including the Marlins Junior, Senior and Softball All-Star teams, traveled to the Marlins Spring Training complex in Jupiter, Florida to compete for a chance to play in the RBI World Series August 2 – August 15 also hosted at Roger Dean Stadium. RBI is a youth outreach program for kids in disadvantaged areas that is designed to increase participation and interest in baseball; encourage academic participation and achievement; increase the number of talented athletes prepared to play in college and the minor leagues; promote greater inclusion of minorities into the mainstream of the game; and to develop self-esteem and teach the value of teamwork.

Ernesto & Maria Espinosa believe in giving back to the community and have always done some type of volunteering activity. After learning about the work of the Fo u n da t i o n w i t h children they decided t o j o i n . T h e y usually volunteer on

Friday nights and have a great time interacting with the fans while working at the Mystery Prize table. It gives them satisfaction to help the Foundation with its causes. Besides that, the Foundation is made up of a very nice group of people, both the volunteers and the staff, and it is a pleasure to spend time with them.

My wife, Marilyn, and I are both native-Texans, but we spent about seven years in Florida during the 70's. I immediately became a Marlins fan when the team was formed. I wasn‘t able to watch all the games because we were back in Texas, but I tuned in when the Marlins went to the playoffs. In 2009, we decided to go to Houston (4 hrs. away) to watch the Marlins play and the tradition began. Even though I retired from the Dallas Police Department in December 2007 and have been very careful with our money, we still like to keep some for that ―special trip.‖ When we tuned in to the game that Tuesday (7/25) we had no idea about the Fantasy Auction but, then I thought, ―These kind of experiences don't come along to just everyone and the money will help someone,‖ so we bid on the Road Trip with the Marlins to Washington DC package! After 30 years of cop work, I‘ve lost most of my faith in people in general and the Marlins have been a getaway. I know that sounds silly. And also it is just plain fun! And as Jimmy Buffett says, "I'd rather live while I'm dying than die while I live." Thank you Marlins for being a part of our lives and to the Foundation for a memorable time!
