MESSAGE from the

PRESIDENT Dear Members, Two years of serving you as your president have gone by, and now it is my time to thank you for all you have done to strengthen my resolve to continue to fight the battle to preserve our country and our constitution. There has been no greater honor that you could have given me than to learn the lesson of service. It has been microscopic compared to the service that our men and women in the military give, but has infused me with courage, determination, persistence and commitment to honor just what they live through everyday. They walk the walk. No matter what negative talk they hear about themselves, they just keep going, because they so truly believe in what they are doing, that’s all that matters. And it does. What we do also matters. We are that small but consistent voice that buoys them up everyday. We tell them they are wonderful and marvelous. We tell them how proud we are of them. They not only hear our voices, they see our works in action. We send them letters and care packages. We speak out in the news. We write letters to the editors. We meet in organizations like our very own club, the Malibu Republican Women Federated and honor them and they hear about it. The word spreads. I’m thankful that this last meeting that I will preside over as President will be in honor of the troops. It is appropriate to me because I liken my tenure to that of a soldier, keeping our unit together, preparing it for future battles, and strengthening it for years to come. We have a stronger foundation. A presence in the community at festivals and fairs, a new website www.maliburwf.org, a magnificent new leader in our incoming president, Alice Starr, and the tremendously multifaceted Board of Directors that she has surrounded herself with for 2008. If there were one last request that I would ask of you it would be to support your new President whole-heartedly and without hesitation. Continued next column……

Member Spotlight

It was early morning, June 17, 1967, and Dak To Special Forces camp in Vietnam was under attack. A mortar exploded, and West Point graduate Allen B. Clark Jr.’s life was changed forever. This is the story of how one soldier, so gravely injured that both of his legs were amputated, turned his grievous loss into a personal triumph. Clark describes his struggle through a year-long recovery and a severe bout of post traumatic stress disorder, so little understood at the time. Clark's story of growth and spiritual fulfillment wrested from his wartime tragedy is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and is of special relevance in our day of so many soldiers returning wounded in body and spirit from Iraq.

Continued from previous column…………. The Urban section in this three-way split for water gets the next largest share of the water. Urban water is mainly used for drinking. There are many businesses like the Jelly Belly Factory that use water to make their products. Industries use water as a tool in manufacturing of their products. Water is the life blood of our world. We cannot live without it. The Natural Environment gets the left over water that we do not take out of the Delta system. Because the Natural Environment is the last spot on the list of priorities, it is in need of major restoration and repair. The Environment is also an important part of the circle of life in California. The three sections: Agriculture, Urban and the Natural Environment are all networked together. They work as a unit. God made it to where we cannot have one section of the puzzle working well without the other sections working in harmony. All three of these groups will need to find a way to share the water supply in a manner that makes sense for everyone and every thing involved. There are hard problems that need to be fixed. The problems in the water supply chain will have complex solutions to them. It will also not be a one size fits all when it comes to the needs of the different regions of California. The issue over how water will be divided will not be fixed overnight nor over months. This will take years of planning. The Republican Leadership has a great start on the planning needed to make the changes necessary for California's future.

California's Water

Water usage is the third rail of politics in California and for the rest of the West as well. The Capitol sprang back to life after a short period of peace and quiet in the building. It was like a flash flood had rushed through the third floor hall of The Capitol building. In one minute the hall was filled with people coming and going from the committee room that held the Information Hearing on California's Water System and the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta. The committee room was packed with all the key warriors in the fight over California's water supply.

The age-old battle over the use of California's water can be broken up into three main groups that fight over supply: Agriculture, Urban, and the Natural Environment. When California's water is split up into different portions, the biggest portion goes to Agriculture. The farmers and cattle ranchers use most of the water supply to keep their plants growing on their farms and keeping the livestock alive. Without the food these two groups provide the citizens of California, the people would go hungry or would have to grow their own food to eat. The farmers and cattle ranchers are a very important part of the circle of life in California. Continued on next column……..

The REAL IDEA Behind the REAL ID ACT of 2005 Courtesy of: Larry Greenley, Freedom Campaign 2007 In defiance of the U.S. government, Montana and Washington state have enacted the first state laws to reject the 2005 federal Real ID Act and increased pressure on Congress to amend or repeal national standards for driver’s licenses. So far, 30 states have passed or are considering proposals condemning the Real ID standards. Although state lawmakers have complained bitterly about the costs and deadlines imposed on states, the federal intrusion into what had been a state responsibility, and the specter of a national ID card, we need to remember the close connection between Real ID standards and Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP). The Real ID driver's license standards are being used to create a North American identity document that would be used to facilitate the easy migration of "North Americans" throughout the increasingly borderless continent.
