REMINDER A reminder to all families and senior players that smoking within the vicinity of sports parks is banned by all local councils. That means the entire reserve, not just the playing diamond. There is no “10m” rule There is no “only at junior games” rule There is no “the wind is blowing the other way” rule It is not fair to leave it up to the Umpire to say something. The Umpire has enough on their plate inside the fence without having to monitor the fans. Most grounds have a grounds official you can ask, or simply and politely tell the person yourself. This applies equally to when your team plays at Murray Farm as well as when we are playing away.

Photos for our Facebook Page

If any team wants to have photos from their games published on our club Facebook Page please send these in to Rebecca at [email protected] Make sure you add details of your team name and any other dialogue you would like added. First names of the players is okay, but we would prefer if you don’t put the kids surnames.

MATCH REPORTS 9u Cardinals Carlingford vs Castle Hill Jesters Result : Loss 7-12

Player of the match: Tamati Stealey It was a beautiful spring morning slightly overcast and a light breeze. Cardinals batted first and started off strong. First player making it to 1st base is Marcus P with great hit towards 3rd. Great fielding by the team to start the first innings kept the Jesters at 1 run. The second innings saw Cardinals keep the Jesters at 0 runs with some more great fielding - well done. Mitchell R started the third innings with a great hit to centre field. With loaded bases Marcus P came in to hit big once again allowing Mitchell R to run home for our first run! Score after third innings: CC 2 CHJ 2 Unfortunately for us the Jesters won the fourth innings scoring 5 runs to our 1. A special mention to Xavier S for some great batting in this innings. Fifth innings saw 1st batter up Tama Stealey slog the ball over the diamond for a home run! Following this, some solid batting from each player helped to set up loaded bases, giving Cardinals the chance to earn some well-deserved runs.

Score after fifth innings: CC 7 - CHJ 12 Overall it was an even match both teams batting and fielding well. The boys were getting tired by the end but fought hard in the fifth innings. Unfortunately a loss this week but a big improvement for the Cardinals in all areas - keep up the great work ! A big shout out must go to Kerri for taking the time to help out the parents with scoring. Without her help a few of us would be lost! Special thanks for a successful morning to Antoaneta for scoring, Darren keeping the boys in line in the dugout, and Cindy for supplying fruit and lollies keeping the boys well-nourished and energised for the game! Last and certainly not least thanks Borgy and Nick for all your support during the match. See you at training on Wednesday. . 13U Jeff Catt Intermediate West Baulko/Carlingford Cardinals vs Castle Hill Result: Loss 1-12 A similar score line to the last couple of games - at least we are being consistent! We were out-hit today 12 hits to 1. Our pitchers Kobe and Harry pitched really well, only walking 4 batters between them and threw plenty of strikes - keeping our fielders busy. However, concentration

in the field was lacking at times which gave away some extra bases and runs. Well done to Tom who got our only hit of the game and then stole two bases on a throwing error to get home. Keep plugging away team, practice over the holidays and the improvement will be there. Happy birthday to Ayden!! 14U Peter Street League Carlingford vs Castle Hill Result: Loss 1-14

The team played a great game against the Castle Hill Crusaders however were unfortunately beaten by a stronger team.

Our guys were fantastic in the field and very little got past them. Once again Jason pitched brilliantly & Josh did well as the team’s second pitcher, especially with his composed fielding of a batted ball and out to first base.

James W .had a brilliant game in the field and was involved in a number of outs, as well as bringing home our only run.

Our batting has improved significantly with quite a few good hits, and the base running is getting more confident.

The guys are improving quickly and will soon be a force to reckon with.

14U Graham Hay League Baulko/Carlingford Cardinals vs Castle Hill Result: 1-8 What a difference a week makes. Last week we were swinging from the rafters with 12 hits, this week we left the bats in the rack. It was always going to be a challenge with four players down and playing a double header. In game one against Castle Hill, we were more competitive than the first time we played the team in green losing 8-1. We were in the game up until the last inning. Highlights were a rare 1-2-3 double play and a double and single from Bailey. Jacob pitched well at a 57% strike rate with two runs from two innings pitched. Eve pitched and stayed strong until the end of the game. Thanks to Alina for playing for us in game one. Baulko/Carlingford Cardinals vs Rouse Hill Result: 1-12 Backing up after a 20 min break, we started well in game two against Rouse Hill, with the score 0-0 after the first innings with some nice pitching from Emma. Things then got tough as backing up with 4 players away started to take its toll, however some highlights with some nice catches by Jude at short-stop. No need to panic as the season is still young, however some things to work on, we need

to be tighter in the field and have more game awareness, also need to be more consistent with the bat at the plate. Thanks to Tom for substituting in game two and Ryan in both games. Special thanks to Simone for going home to get Ryan's kit after the late call up. 16U Brian Cashmore South Carlingford vs Blacktown at Laybutt Reserve Loss 9 – 10 Man of the Match- Ivan Costenada Adam Dodge got the team off to a flying start when he was dropped by the pitcher. Adam exploited the situation by running the whole way to home plate before a second batter turned up. The team went on to notch up 5 runs and no outs before succumbing to a lethal triple play that had coach Adam Anderson seeing red. “I have been around baseball for decades and I have never seen a triple play. I did not think they existed,” he admonished his team. “You can Google that and you probably won’t even see it. I still have not got my head around who got out and what happened.” Adam Dodge went on to make a brilliant catch near 2nd base, with Sam Fang striking out two batters. The opposition had been contained to just 1 run.

But the rot was about to set in, with poor base play keeping our run rate to just two. While fielding, rooky Ivan Costenada took a backwards-running “catch of the match” at third base and Nick Said claimed a further scalp at first base. However, further costly mistakes allowed the opposition to accrue a devastating 7 run innings and take the lead by 1 run. In the fourth innings, Tyler made a massive hit, allowing Adam Dodge and LeAndre Pandoulis to make it home. But further base running errors kept the team scoreless after that point. They headed into the field with only a one run lead. Blacktown stood their ground at the plate and promptly notched up three runs, allowing them to claim victory. Coach Adam delivered a withering post-match review to his team, stating” We should have flogged that team. They did not do anything well. They did not bat well or pitch well. We gave them that match on a silver platter.” “We were getting run out plays and we had multiple players at the same base and they just took advantage of it.” However he praised Ivan, saying, “That was a fantastic catch and you got two base hits.” Hopefully the players can spend some time during school holidays studying the rule book so they can avoid another triple play for the entirety of their lives.
