4 Steps to shift perception if challenged
Step 1: Pause- Compose self, allow space, Avoid Reacting- Thanks for that…- Interesting view, thanks for sharing….- I’d never thought of that, what makes you….- Wow, that was honest, how does everyone else
feel?.....
Step 2: Focus on positive intent– Assume whatever they have said or asked will be
helpful, be curious
Step 3: Acknowledge– Offer genuine appreciation for being challenged,
show you have heard what they said (this is notthe same as agreeing)
Step 4: Thank you- Explore different ways of thinking, be open to
alternative perspective and then thank person fororiginal contribution
