Leaf Johns Hopkins Center for the Prevention of Youth Violence April Lewis Office of Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention Description: The purpose of this workshop is to describe a conceptual model for developing a community-wide youth violence prevention effort and specific strategies for implementing and sustaining this type of community-wide program. The presentation focuses on the special role that schools play in this type of initiative and the linkages both organizational and personnel that are required for the success of the program. The presentation describes organizational strategies for developing and sustaining programs and the role that needs to be played by state and local policy makers as well as local providers, academic institutions, and professional and community associations.
