Engaged Research – Some concluding thoughts
Research and Business and Community Engagement have developed with different cultures...Engaged Research?
Govt has funded (HEIF etc) about 7000 KE/BCE practitioners in institutions with the skills and experience to do engagement/brokering
Engagement still underdeveloped (most institutions): skills; infrastructure Engagement: big challenge to traditional academic cultures:
20 year change prog. – half way through? Research-Innovation gap. Higher Education Institutions – public money: public good. Charities. HEIs can play a major role in solving society’s problems –
but in partnership with society not handed down from on high Continuum: (paying) Students become Alumni and Business/community
reps: HEIs needs to harness the continuum of this relationship
Thank you. Your engagement role/activities? JISC Business and Community Engagement – Prof Devt. - Simon Whittemore ENGAGE 2012
