Conclusions A novel circularly polarized antenna was designed
for Japanese RFID readers. Because of its compact size (60 mm × 60 mm ×
0.8 mm), the proposed antenna is suitable for use in RFID handheld readers.
In addition, the optimized antenna operated in the desired performance band of 948 MHz to 954 MHz with an axial ratio of less than 3 dB, a return loss of more than 10 dB, and a 3 dB axial-ratio beamwidth larger than 80°, which meets the Japanese RFID system require ments.
