Mark Wachen is the Managing Director of DreamIt NYC and will oversee the Summer 2011 program in New York City. Wachen is also the Managing Director and Founder of Upstage Ventures, a firm that advises and invests in consumer internet and interactive marketing companies. Wachen is a Board member of Optify and OrderGroove, and has worked with a variety of other companies including ChaiLabs (acquired by Facebook), SeatGeek, Opinionaided, GameChanger, STELLAService, CatchAFire, and Cyan Pictures. Prior to Upstage, Wachen was the Managing Director of Autonomy Optimost. Wachen founded Optimost, the company that pioneered multivariable testing and optimization on the internet, in 2001 and served as its CEO up until its acquisition by Interwoven in November 2007 (Interwoven was then acquired by Autonomy in March 2009).... Jay Levy is a co-founder and partner of Zelkova Ventures. Jay focuses most of his time in working with the current portfolio company and looking at new investments in the software-as-a-service, internet media and green tech space. Jay launched his entrepreneurial career while in High School with his first web-services firm, providing web development services to early stage companies. After high school, Jay moved to New Jersey to attend Rutgers University, where he studied Finance & Political Science. While at Rutgers he helped to launch UConnections.com an internet portal for college students merging the office campus community with the dorm. While still in college Jay went to work for Morgan Stanley working on the development of their separately managing account business. After leaving Morgan Stanley, Jay helped to launch MPI Professionals a New York based financial service consultancy which was later acquired by a publically traded multi-national.... Matt Salzberg, a senior associate in the New York office, joined Bessemer in 2010. He focuses on the mobile, digital-media and software sectors and has been closely involved with Bessemer's investments in mobile application management company Apperian, network optimization company Intucell, credit-ratings agency Kroll Bond Ratings, mobile-advertising firm Millennial Media and network software developer Vasona Networks. He also serves on the Board of Directors at SelectMinds. Before joining BVP, Matt was an analyst in the Blackstone Group’s private equity division, where he stayed until shortly after its IPO. He was involved in several transactions including the take-private of Nielsen, the corporate carve-out of Catalent and the dividend recapitalization of Centennial Communications. In addition, Matt worked in Blackstone’s Hong Kong office where he evaluated investments in the Thai, Indonesian and Australian markets. Mark A. Mitchell joined Safeguard Scientifics in 2005 and is a Principal in the Technology Group. He has over 10 years of experience in early and growth-stage equity financing, mergers & acquisitions and strategic consulting for technology companies. Mark is responsible for identifying and evaluating new technology companies for Safeguard and supporting Safeguard’s existing partner companies. Prior to joining Safeguard, Mark helped build Wachovia Securities’ East Coast Technology group, where he focused on M&A and IPO transactions for Internet & software companies. He also previously worked at Broadview International, providing M&A advisory services to companies in the Internet, software and communications infrastructure markets. Earlier in his career, Mark served as a consultant at PTG, a strategy and growth management consultancy, where he provided strategic advice to both Fortune 500 and early-stage technology companies.
