HISTORY VINYL ADVOCACY IN CANADA
Founding ofVinyl Council of Canada
1980 - Fire & PVC at the MGM Grand.Opened up the flammability of PVC issue, triggering the need for formalized Advocacy.
Tom Torokvei, Chairman of IPEX Canada, created the first vinyl advocacy group in Canada, the Vinyl Council of Canada (VCC) as a small council within another association.
The council was comprised of both rigid and flexible processors, resin producers, building & construction product manufacturers, and additives members.

HISTORY VINYL ADVOCACY IN CANADA
Vinyl Council of Canada1995 – Greenpeace attacked Chlorine and PVC, and Tom Torokvei mobilized the industry to push back, which further expanded the council membership.
Veso Sobot, also of IPEX and mentored by Tom Torokvei, enlisted the help of Dr. Patrick Moore and Dr. Ron Brecher to fight back attacks on vinyl.
Once a Toronto Councillor, Adam Vaughan, now a Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister Trudeau, in early 2000, tabled a motion to Toronto City Hall to ban all PVC from Toronto’s bid for the Olympics
Dr. Ron Brecher made the argument that the science was incorrect and the motion was overturned.

A NORTH AMERICAN VOICE FOR VINYL

Associations are dynamic, and as in the case where AAMA and IGMA have found great benefits with a collective voice, so too was the case with the vinyl industry in North America, and with that, the North American Voice for Vinyl was created.
