RIPEL – A Unique Plantation Acquisition

1

3

LEMCO has negotiated to secure the RIPEL

plantation asset in the Solomon Islands.

The total area of the plantation is 10,953 Ha with

4200 Ha being fully cultivated with Coconut Trees.

Leased lands no native title issues. 5 million

coconuts PLUS monthly.

The Plantation has not been operational for the

last 13 years. Result of past tensions in Solomon

Islands and company owner disputes that then

arose. As a distressed asset it is really valued at

below 30% of real sale value.

Australian group owns 75.1% and Lavukal Trust

Board traditional land owners own 24.9%.

THIS PROJECT OFFERS a quick return on

income to shareholders with double digit profit

distributions expected in first 5 years.

Strengths * RIPEL consists of over 4200 HA fully grown copra trees.* 800 ha of Cocoa Trees* Coconut collection and processing for export sales can start from day one of operation* Able to quickly receive organic certification* Opportunity for expansion to

11,000 hectares

Threats

» Poor state of wharf facilities at RIPEL may effect ability to get Copra to market.

» Resettling individuals that do not belong on the estates

» Security issues with vandalism and theft

Opportunities» Global demand for both

coconut flesh and coconut crude oil is high

» Increasing price of Cocoa beans

» No large scale coconut crude oil processing facilities

» Opportunity to start producing organic produce

» Inter cropping. Cocoa grows very well with Copra

» Potential working holiday for international backpackers

Weaknesses• Shipping and transportation costs

to Asian and other international

markets

• Inadequate inter-Island shipping

services

• May require importing foreign work

force

• Investment needed for the repair

and or replacement of plant and

equipment

Cocoa Processing – the Solomon’s is

an ideal location for growing Cocoa

and processing dry beans.

As part of the funding to be

allocated to the project will

include the setting up of

Cocoa drying and

processing facilities on the

islands.

The aim would be to

produce upwards of 1000

tonnes of organic cocoa

yearly within the first 3 years

and then to grow this

significantly over 10 years.

All for the export market.

Adoption of a outgrowers

program to be used to help

increase the production.

Organic Beef

Breeding and

Production

Objective: To work with an experienced

high grade commercial herd

breeder program from Mackay,

Australia. Program uses

Brahman cross bred bulls.

Establish a cleared area of up

to 1,000 ha to be prepared for

pastures over 2-3 yrs.

Create a cattle breeding

program from parent livestock

from Australia.

Import minimum 200 head of

cattle to start production for

organic beef.

Look to using supported high

grade organic feed growing

systems.

Get Certified Organic Food

approvals.

Exporting beef to Asia and

Europe.

To assist with reducing the grass in the Ripel Coconut plantation, rearing cattle is ideal. Copra meal is an excellent feed also of which there will be plenty produced. This would also create an ability to supply local market needs and export also potentially to Asia.

A great Eco-Resort PotentialPrior to 2002, the Russell Islands had

its own resort located nearby to

Yandina. This was a regular tourist

destination for people visiting the

Solomon Islands due to the great

diving offered including viewing of

World War 2 relics in the deeper

waters.

Other resorts were also located on

other islands including a 9 hole golf

course on a nearby island.

Re-establishing tourism on the Russell

Islands would quickly create

revenue, new supporting

opportunities and employment.
