Where do we come from?
Montepulciano Area
The entire area cover 16.500 hectares
Montepulciano's history has always been closely linked to the fame of
its vines and wines, as demonstrated by the centuries-old cellars in the
town.

Europe during 18th and 19th century, particularly some French writers,
giving us a sign of the importance and the level of quality and
prestige it had achieved.

The Consortium of Vino Nobile
Founded in 1965 with the aim of promoting and protecting the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano in Italy and in the rest of the world.
The wine producers that are currently members of the Consortium
represent 90% of the registered vineyards producing Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
The total bottling wineries associated are 74:
- 14 more then 130.000 bott. Sold/year
- 18 between 40.000 and 130.000 bott. Sold/year
- 42 less then 40.000 bott. Sold/year
On 12 July 1966, “Vino Nobile di Montepulciano” obtained
“Denominazione di Origine Controllata” (D.O.C.) and regulated its
production.
Since 1 July 1980 “Vino Nobile” has boasted the
most important recognition, “Denominazione di Origine Controllata
e Garantita” (D.O.C.G.)

promote local wine and food products and also traditions and
arts.
•“Consortium hometown links” Investments for the restoration of
city’s most important monuments.
Consortium main functions: monitoring and protection of the trademark
- Registration of the trademark in different countries
- Daily Monitoring: team of technicians and agronomists
equipped with the necessary experience and qualifications
carry out daily monitoring activity in the vineyards, cellars
and finished products to assess the precise application of the
production specifications referring to the DOCs. These
activities guarantee the unique features, character and quality
of Vino unique features, character and quality of Vino Nobile di
Montepulciano (as well as Rosso di Montepulciano DOC and Vin
Santo di Montepulciano DOC) all over the world, allowing the
DOC to uphold its prestigious reputation and reliability which
are the result of a long historical journey.

Online system allows anyone who has purchased a bottle of Vino Nobile Docg,
Rosso and Vin Santo Doc to learn about the entire production process through a
simple operation.
The software, designed by Federdoc for the italian Consortia has been functional
for several years and was created to provide a guarantee of the purchased
product.
By visiting the website www.consorziovinonobile.
First select the type of wine (Nobile, Rosso, Vin Santo), then answer the requests
for bottle format, serial number and marks shown on the neck-strip.
At this point a simple click on
the mouse will activate a brief
search before the history of this
bottle appears with detailed
information about the year,
place, winery and
other notes about the type of
wine.

Fee for the first association: 250€
Annual cost (Grapes Production and Vinification) : 0.75 €/qle +1.40€/hl
Annual cost for bottlers (grapes production, vinification and bottling):
0.75 €/qle +1.40€/hl + 4.25 €/hl
Non Members: With the “erga omnes” legislation (enforced by law in 2010)The consortium is
responsible for safeguarding, overseeing and promoting entire wine
classifications, including non-members. The annual cost is aproximately 5% less
than members.
Necklabels: 0.019 for each bottle
Support from the State/UE: it depends on the programs presented and
approved (Paesi Terzi Programme).
