This event is about us standing for the children of our world

...we were all children once...

400 children die every hour because of insufficient food

90% of the world’s wealth is in the hands of 5% of the populationThere is enough food stored in

Europe and America to feed the world for 5 years42% of the world’s children of

secondary school age are not attending secondary school

1 in 6 children do not have access to clean water

...all children have a right to be heard

...and a right to play

Are you ready to be inspired???

The 10 year vision is to create 15 schools around the world

...a journey of a thousand miles, begins with the first step

...the project started four months ago

We have registered Iyriong Development school in Uganda

...and started in a temporary building

The village is 5,000 strong (english speakers)

Consisting of subsistence, peasant farmers

1 in 3 children do not go to school

TB, Malaria, Malnourishment, HIV are common

There is no secondary school available

Primary school has 1 teacher to 130 student ratio

Books, clean water, shoes and electricity are considered luxury items

We have focussed on empowering the community towards self sufficiency

Sewing

•They have learnt the ability to make bags, providing a small income stream for the school

Carpentry

•The first bed was made, adding to the range of local skills

Bricklaying and farming

•Core requirements for future employment

Shout us a lunch meal scheme

•Often their only meal of the day!

• We are creating a sense of community and friendship

• ...building a future for generations

• ...providing an environment for children to stay away from the street

• ...and learn in a healthy, fun and safe way

The purpose of the school is not simply to provide the intellectual

tools to gain employment...

We will nurture fully rounded children around the principles of

love, happiness and passion

We will provide the framework for children to tap into their inner

power

Eventually, we will develop a broad education curriculum, nurturing the

mind, body and spirit

The school ran out of money 7 weeks ago

...and the priorities for the next 6 months are to:

• Mobilise a UK based team of supporters• Have the school produce enough bags and beds to

pay for salaries, meals and basic overheads• Register an NGO and build a website• Acquire the land• Build 2-6 more classrooms• Set up a regular flow of visiting international volunteers• Start a nursery, and eventually a primary

...we need to raise at least £30,000 to fulfil upon this

...if not this, then what?

...if not you, then who?

...if not now, then when?

“More powerful than the sound of the tread of a mighty army…

…is an idea…

…whose time has come”

"Many things can wait a child cannot!

...to him, we cannot say tomorrowhis name is today"

So how do you get involved?

...we encourage you to think about different ways to support?

Can you:

• Help us build a website?• Do a sponsored run / event?• Offer us pro-bono legal / accounting services?• Put us in touch with some funders?• Help manage UK incoming donations?• Join us in Uganda and visit the school first hand?• Help with paperwork / admin?• Introduce us to corporate sponsors / high net worth donors?• Set up a direct debit with us?

...and to give you a sense around the value for money

...in the village

£100 would buy

• 2 teacher’s salary for 1 month &• 1 cook’s salary for 1 month &• Life saving vaccines for 4 people &• A daily meal for 15 people, for 1 month

...no the “&” is not a typo...you get the lot for £100

...so coming to a close...

what can you take

away from this

presentation???

Remember the specialness of our children…

...the future

...be inspired to dig deep and make a difference today

...build deeper friendships…

So…
