Every garden is unique, and yet all the garden of our network recognize themselves in the network because they share the same values of respect of the human being, respect of the environment, and solidarity.

People involved -Administration council: 24 - staff: 5 people, equivalent to 3 full time - A project manager, responsible for the garden, full-time, permanent - an environmental educator to, permanent - 2 part-time gardeners, a seasonal worker. - A « compost master » in charge of the composting -Volunteers: volunteers from the organisation plus 2 young (two part-time) civic service volunteers -Gardeners: 17 families, and 12 people on collective plots

-The garden was created in 2000 by a social development organization
-The garden is composed of individual plots « family gardens », collective plots , and educational plots

- The projects of the garden are financed by private foundations and the region. Part of the funding has to come from other sources (selling products or services)
Activities:
- Worshops and visits in the garden for 2000 children and 100 adults, on ecological gardening, compost, eductaion to sustainable development…
- Food production (famillies/collectives plots) and support for organic production
- Ex situ gardening: in schools, centers for disabled people, eldery houses, and even a prison!
- Gardening with disabled
- We use gardening activities to help and teenagers toward a social integration
- Annual festival " all in the garden " with demonstrations, exhibitions, seeds and plants exchanges, conferences …
- Collective composting center (for individuals and professionals)

-We receive several group of children and urban young people (Marseille – Aix en Provence…) coming to get fresh ideas in the garden .
-We organize mini stays " of the urban in the Indian " which allow the young people to live in a natural environment. They sleep under the tipi, they cook with the sun, build ecological devices for the garden.
-We designed mobile garden tanks on wheels to install in schools and community centers, in town without ground, as well as prison garden in a court of walk in the prison of Salon de Provence
-We are specialized in biological gardening and in composting techniques .

Location: Digne Les Bains, a small town, 19000 inhabitants, in the Alpes piemont

-Employed staff: 1 manager, 1 trainer/coordinator, 3 garden workers
-other Volunteers : according to projects
-65 Gardeners
3 different gardens in the city:
divided in plots for invidual or families, with pedagogical and common plots
-The gardens are managed by cooperation between staff and gardeners, in each garden they are regular gardener meetings to organise the life, the common work, and deal with the arising issues.
-Financial resources include public funding, private foundations and donations, selling training courses or workshops, and doing some garden work for private owners

-created in 2006, first garden in 2007
-first garden: to produce food on land not wanted by the owner, 11 plots
-second garden: collaboration with another organisation working on compost, with objectives related to environment, health, waste issue, and re-urbanization, 17 plots
-third garden: offered for gardening by the owner, 4 plots

Main activities
-Technical support for organic gardening, social link, organising common work and bringing people together, environmental education for the local schools and leisure centers, organising the collective compost and distribution to the gardeners, training sessions, conferences,… and big parties!
-The collective compost program is a pilot program supported by the local institutions and the national energy and sustainable development agency.

COSMOS KOLEJ
- Cultural center in the Northern neighbourhood of Marseille. Artists residency: theatre, circus, arts, musicians, film makers.
- 9 cultural workers (1 specific for gardens).
- Art activities: for pupils from 7 to 15 years old
- The garden: 62 families + 4 childcare classes.
- Educational workshop “du jardin à l’assiette”(from the garden to the plate)
- 60 individuals plots in total.
- Rehabilitation with youngsters of a garden in small residence, to be given to the inhabitants.

2006 : creation of 10 individual plots and 2 shared plots
2009 : 37 new plots
2012 : social housing agency : creation of a new garden down the buildings: inauguration 18th of October.
Financial ressources :institutions working on urban social inequalities, social housing agency , Marseille Municipality, the FEDER, and the foundation Logirem.
Staff members of the garden: 1 full-time person + other 8 members of Cosmos Kolej + 62 families

Main activities:
- Workshop “Du jardin à l’assiette” (childcare): 4 groups of 24 pupils come 4 times during the year and discover the links between what is growing and what we eat.
- Gardening initiation week for youngsters with their educators + presentation to the neighbours.
- Seasonal meetings with gardeners: share information, wishes, collective tasks: clean the paths, small repair activities.

ASSOCIATION CAP VERT HISTORY AND ORGANISATION
OF THE CORSICAN CONSERVATION GARDEN
Founded in 1992, the association Cap Vert, in collaboration with the Regional Nature Reserve of Corsica proposes a solution of conservation and valorisation of the local cultivated heritage. “The Traditional Gardens of Cap Corse” are the results of this endeavour and are unique on the island. They bring together 100 fruit trees, 50 vegetable varieties and a herb garden.
In 2004 the gardens were awarded the Organic Agriculture certification.
The association is presided by a a chairman and a board of ten official volunteers, six salaried employees involved in cultivation, seed production, gardening, awareness actions through tourism, external communication and animations.
MAIN OBJECTIVES & ACTIVITIES
to preserve, study, valorise and diffuse the local varieties of plants to Corsican farmers and gardeners, using traditional cultural techniques
encourage the diffusion of local seeds via a network of producers.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
- Research and tests : natural plant treatments using the wild local environment
- Tourism : a traditional visit and a child-friendly circuit are proposed to discover the gardens
- Shop and Products : sales and degustation of local produce, jams or syrups, which are transformed by the association using fruits and vegetables from the gardens.
- Communication/awareness/educational actions : events, environmental animations for children, youth training sessions, manual skills activities program

-Hortitherapy for OAPs of the Clinique of Luri
-Creation of a Conservation garden of wild Corsican plants
-Fabrication of insect houses.

2007 started the planning for the rearangement of the area. A municipality is anticipated
Our group wants a neighbourhood selfsupporting garden
The municipality refuses it
The area is getting squattered, but not from us
The municipality is willing to talk with us, it’s better to have a garden rather than squatters
Leasing contract with the municipality, but we don’t pay loan
2000 square meters are promised but we`re getting only 1000 square meters
August 2009: the soil is completely changed, the garden is openend

The garden is located at Berlin-Kreuzberg
about 1000 square meters of garden on public spot with free water supply
contract of lease from the municipality, no rent
disadvantages: no fence, lots of dog´s muck, lot´of thievery
About 60 patches for singles and groups, no fences between our patches
We have a area with patches for our children
Everybody is allowed to plant what they want, except trees and high bushes
Some patches are community ones: Tomatoes, pumpkins, herbs
Everybody can rest in our garden

Interkulturelle NaturwerkStadt
- Project is part of and administrated by Quartiersmanagement (district management) Graefekiez
- Associated to Nachbarschaftshaus Urbanstrasse e.V.
- One project manager at the moment one MAE-worker
- The main garden is situated at the outdoor area of the Graefekids childrens club.
- The rooftop garden belongs to the building which is hosting the project´s office and workshop rooms . District management office and other social institutions/associations are also residing here.

:
- …The project was started in 2006 on the grounds of the youth club graefekids . There was no garden before, only shrubs and small trees that had to be cleared off.
- The roof garden with apiary began in 2009.
Creator was Lisa Schwab, a landscape architect. She originally coordinated a maintenance project for the courtyards of a big public housing block in the neighbourhood of the youth club
- It is an inner city area mainly inhabited migrant families with Arabian background. The project mainly provides an opportunity to children of the block between 6 and 12 years .

NEXES INTERCULTURALS DE JOVES PER EUROPA
Nexes is a non profit organization based in Barcelona.
We work with the local community and with other countries of the world to promote intercultural learning, active participation and a social transformation that sees in diversity an enriching resource.
Our aim is to foster dialogue and exchange among cultures, work to promote peace, transnational cooperation, social inclusion and active participation of young people in the building up of our society.

With the tools of non formal education we organize and implement training courses, workshops, youth exchanges, projects of European Voluntary Service and Leonardo da Vinci, and other activities for young people and adults. Our multicultural team is enriched by youth workers, trainers and experts of European programmes, intercultural learning and human rights. We cooperate with institutions, NGOs, bodies and enterprises and we take part in local and international networks.

PHOENICURUS CARDEDEU
We are in CARDEDEU, a town 40 km north-east of Barcelona;
There are TWO of us – Gisela and Mark – who created and manage the project;
We currently cultivate by hand three plots totalling 3300 m2, and provide weekly organic vegetable boxes for a consumer cooperative in Cardedeu itself .

PHOENICURUS CARDEDEU
- We sowed the first seed in November 2009 , with a desire to put into practice things we had learnt WWOOFing during the previous months;
- We continued experimenting and allowed the project to develop organically until the creation of the cooperative;
- From the beginning, we have made the garden as open as possible to people in the town and surrounding area who wish to know more about organic horticulture and permaculture;
- We are self-organised, and carry out all necessary tasks ourselves.

Examples of social and educational activities we have organised (so far):
- Creation of a seedbank for other gardeners in the town;
- Workshop on solar-powered devices;
- Book-swaps for St. George’s Day;
- Visit of a local primary school;

- Advanced Organic Horticulture course;
- Monthly “Open Doors” for the members of the cooperative;
- Regular guided visits for individuals and small groups who get into contact
Our garden is in the urban centre of Cardedeu
and there’re 20 plots of 45m2 . The teachers of
the school offer courses about organic
agriculture, permaculture and sustainable
mediterranean gardens since february 2012.
On the other hand, EsBiosfera promotes self-
sufficiency, health and consumption

• We provide training, english classes, work experience and support for community groups
• We also participate in in European-level activity:
– Older people (50+) via “Senior Volunteering”
– Learning Partnerships

• We work closely with a larger NGO in our area – Point Europa. Point Europa was involved in the “Green Fingers” Grundtvig project. This project arranged exchange visits for gardeners working with young people, co-ordinated by them. Point Europa also has links with other organisations providing staff, volunteers and suport for city-based projects which offer gardening opportunities for disadvantaged people in Plymouth, our nearest city.

• Mount Edgcumbe was created by the Edgcumbe
family in 1500 originally to hold a deer park.
• In 1550 the house at the top of the hill was
built.
• The landscape park was created over the next
240 years.
• With the creation of over 50 listed builds folly

• The Country park was sold by the 6th Earl in 1971 and was bought by Plymouth City Council and Cornwall Council.
• Run by a joint committee and managed by the Estate Manager.
• Over 50 volunteers help run the park from gardening stewarding in the house and helping to run transport links around the park.

Funded by rents from property, money from both Plymouth Council and Cornwall Council, Car parking charges, and leasing of land.
The benefit to the community is to have a large green space, open and free to everyone to enjoy and relax in a place of natural beauty.

We have a large group of fund raisers and helpers called The Friends of Mount
Edgcumbe, the organization numbers over 500 people. They all come from the
local community and help with projects around the park.
