Legends of Origin

Plot points-Poor man had 3 daughtersthat cannot get married

-Saint Nick heard

-Poor man wouldn’t take charity

-Saint Nick slipped gold into the girls stockings , while hanging by the fire place to dry

-In the morning the girls found the gold

-They could all then get married and live happily ever after

And Then…

• Led to custom of kids leaving out their stockings or shoes, hoping for gifts from Saint Nicholas.

• Kids used normal socks but then lead to using personalized stockings so saint Nick could know who’s stocking is who’s.

• Children often opened in the morning before presents when parents are waking up.

Things To Know

• Children left clogs filled with straw for Santa’s reindeer ( he left treats in place of the straw)

• Later clogs became stockings

• German kids left socks by the fire place to dry

• And St. Nicholas would fill socks with 5 gifts

-something to eat (fruit or candy)

-toys that made noise

-item that is visually pleasing (jewelry coloring book)

-item with a good scent (cologne perfume)

-something soft (like modeling clay or a soft toy)
