Advantages of using social media

Social media marketing has many advantages:Broad reach - social media can reach millions of people all around the worldability to target particular groups - many forms of social media (e.g. Facebook, Foursquare)allow businesses to target specific groups, often in particular locations

free or low-cost - many forms of social media are free for business, and paid options areusually low-cost

personal - social media allow you to communicate on a personal basis with individualcustomers and groups

fast – you can quickly distribute information to many people

easy - you don't need high-level skills or computer equipment to participate in social media.The average person with a standard computer should have no difficulty.

Assess and Reassess

One way to assess whether to use one of the “big four” social networkingsites as Samson Lov refers to Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google+, is by lookingat the statistics—number of users on each network.

Statistical data is an interesting factor to look at while you decide where to buildpresences. However, keep in mind it’s one of many perspectives. Some socialnetworking sites may make more sense for your business than others. We’lldiscuss this further in Tip #19, Start Somewhere and Start Small.
