When Thomas Burgess stood at the Bala Falls and was looking down the Moon River, he is purported to have said “All those Pines are mine”.

Margaret Burgess Park was the centre of the early community.

The White Pines are the “raison d’etre’ of Bala. These White Pines are the remnant of the original stand of pines, a significant symbolic reminder of what drew Thomas Burgess to the area in 1869.

This area is very important for tourism and also is heavily treed and damage to these trees would have a long-term impact on the area’s tourist draw.
