Legislated MHSC Mandate• Advise the Minister on all occupational health and safety issues in the
mining industry relating to legislation, research and promotion.• Review and develop legislation for recommendation to the Minister
(Focus on Regulations, MRAC).• Oversee research in relation to health and safety in
the mining industry (CoE, SIMRAC).• Liaise with other bodies concerned with health and

Safe Barring Practices Training modules“Minimising the increasing rockburst risk in the platinummines.” The project developed some innovative animatedlearning (videos) and awareness training material to assiststhe mines to train both their production and rock engineeringpersonnel on how to manage seismic risk and how to avoidpractices that are known to result in increased seismic hazard.

• The Mine Health and Safety Council identified the need to host an Occupational HealthDialogue which provided a platform used to focus solely on Occupational Health. The aimis to lead to greater awareness and focus on Occupational Health issues that are foundin the SAMI (South African Mining Industry)

• The EPM system is being customised to produce the reports as per the MHSC needs.
• Centre of Excellence (CoE):o The five key processes on the implementation of CoE as per the approved CoE
Business Plan have been completed: Organisational Design; Change and Communication Management; Establishing the Dissemination and Commercialisation function within CoE, Information Technology Infrastructure and Architecture and Corporate Governance Policies and Procedures reviews.
o The MHSC is in the recruitment process of the newly established positions.
