What Do You Need?
• An Internet-connected computer
• A digital projector or TV hookup (Averkey in Ceres) will make the videos easier to show to a whole class
• Windows Media Player – All of our computers have this installed [look in the Programs listing (Start, Programs)]

What Do You Need?
• External computer speakers may make it easier for your students to hear the video (There may be some available at your site, or an inexpensive pair can be purchased for approx. $20)

• Bookmark this page (Favorites, Add to Favorites)

• Select Enter

• Check the Menu Bar at the top for various functions:– Search (the screen you are currently on)– Playlist (your collection of favorites)– User Guide (a downloadable 40-page guide – Or,
view it online)– Learning Resources (calendars with historical
events/references with links to videos)– Help– Preferences (change your password or other
information)
Additional Help
• You can watch a 3 ½ minute online video that shows the basic features of the United Streaming site by going to: http://vod.unitedstreaming.com/demo/overview/demo10.html

Search Screen
• Once you have logged in, you will be taken to the Search Screen

• Selecting the down-arrow next to Subject reveals many choices

• After a subject has been selected, clicking on the down-arrow next to Topic will reveal a list of categories within that particular subject

• Remember to select the appropriate grade
• You might want to look at the choices available at adjacent grade levels – Or, select Everyone
• Select Go

• On the right will be a scrolling list of videos that fit your search criteria
• Information shown includes: a synopsis, grade levels, runtime, & publisher
Click on the Title
• Clicking on the title will take you to this screen• Shown are links to:
– Blackline Masters– Teachers’ Guides– Closed Caption option– Segment/Chapter titles with times– Buttons for Streaming (showing the video right
away), Downloading (saving the video on your computer), and Add to Playlist (your own list saved on United Streaming’s site)
Advanced Search
• The Advanced Search screen adds the option of searching by a keyword, publisher, relevance, and/or Spanish titles
Search by Standards
• From the main search page, you may also search by subject, grade, and California State Standard
• Then, just click on the link for Videos meeting this standard
How Would I Use It?
• Use United Streaming the same way you have always used videos in support of your curriculum
• Show selected segments when the entire video would be inappropriate due to content or length
• Insert a segment into a PowerPoint slide to illustrate the presentation’s content or a particular concept on the slide

Suggestions
• Some videos will appear distorted when played in the Full Screen mode – Test the video before showing it!
• When using Windows Media Player, right-clicking on the playing video gives you the choice of screen size

• Video files can be very large and can occupy a lot of your computer’s hard drive space
• Rather than saving entire videos on your computer, using United Streaming’s Playlist feature is a good idea

Insert Into a Slide
• To insert a video clip into a slide, first download/save it to your computer
• Then, with the slide in Design/Normal View, select Insert, Movies and Sounds, Movie from File from the Menu Bar
• Browse to find where you saved it, then double-click on the name (or click on it once and select OK) to insert it into the slide
