Expected Impact

• Decreased HIV transmission in

MSM populations in Metro Manila

and Metro Cebu, and IDU

populations in Metro Cebu

Desired Outcome

• Reduced high risk sexual and

injecting behaviors among MSM

and IDU populations in targeted

areas

Project Implementation Sites

• MSM: Mandaluyong, Taguig,

Paranaque and Mandaue City

• IDU: Cebu City

HIV Prevention in Big Cities Project (Philippines)

Key Interventions

1. Developing friendly services for MSM and PWID (e.g.,

drop-in centers, outreach activities) in big cities;

2. Increasing the demand and use of services by MSM and

PWID, to help them reduce risky behaviors, through

improved peer education and support;

3. Strengthening governance for development and

implementation of evidence-based policies and

interventions, at both national and local levels, by

collecting strategic information through appropriate studies

developing evidence-based policies and programs, and

developing LGUs capacity to implement effective interventions

at the local level.

HIV Prevention in Big Cities Project (PHI)

• Implementation Period: April 15, 2013 to December

30, 2014, with a one-year extension until December 30,

2015.

• Project amount: USD1,428,890 (SIDA FUNDED),

plus USD 500,000 (WB FUNDED)

• Consulting firm: Population Services International

(PSI) United States in association with the

Philippine NGO Council on Population, Health and

Welfare (PNGOC)
