Beginning Steps• Get people's attention • Welcome them • Introduce yourself • State the purpose of your

presentation • State how you want to deal

with questions

Organize Info • Visual aids enhance your information.

• The best visual aid is the actual item

• Visual information should be easy to

understand

• Use hand-outs sparingly – generally

offer at end of presentation unless

you need them to follow along.

Providing details• If a process involves something small or

hard to see, provide an illustrative “map” to direct them to the item.

• If possible, create an enlarged photo or diagram to eliminate confusion.

• Create step-by-step instructions. Consider how you would explain it to someone who is unfamiliar with the process. (Don’t be condescending)

Considerations• Location – Is it busy, noisy, too small or

cluttered making connecting with audience difficult?

• Time limit – If this presentation is taking place during the workday, request a time limit clarification.

• Audience knowledge base – Is this familiar or new information? How will you approach your presentation if it is a blended audience (both familiar and unfamiliar with concepts)?

Finally…• Review complicated information.

• Highlight main points you want them to “take away” from the presentation

• Welcome questions from the audience

• Thank them for attending.
