1. Empirics: A deterioration in consumer confidence:
raises unemployment, decreases industrial production andconsumption persistently
reduces the nominal interest rate and is non-deflationary
Sentimental Business Cycles: Sentimental shocks explain between 16and 28 % of variance of unemployment and 10 to 20 % of fluctuations inindustrial production at business cycle frequencies.2. Theory: Shocks to sentiments induces a powerful supply-demandfeedback mechanism:
