OUR IDEOLOGY

Samopomich union shares principles of Christian morality and implements it into Ukrainian reality. We believe that only through alive connections and collaboration with people of Ukraine we are able to develop our thoughts and achieve our goals we are striving for: to build the country where people want to live.

WHAT ARE WE STRIVING FOR?

NGO “Samopomich Union” was founded by Lviv Mayor, Andriy Sadovyy, in October 2004.

OUR HISTORY

“Samopomich” movement, as the embodiment of a certain ideol-ogy, appeared in Galicia hundred years ago. People were uniting in such unions to take care of their households together, to �ght with government restrictions, to achieve together more than they could achieve by themselves only. One of such unions was called «The Land Auditing Union» and was emboding the idea of people’s self-organization in the newspaper «Samopomich» which appeared in the 1909-1914 as an addition to the «Econo-mist» magazine. By the way, we have borrowed from them our slogan: «Power in unity!»

For more than 10 years we help people to protect their rights by introducing new social initiatives for youth and other citizens, by conducting public control, by helping to improve life quality.

In Kyiv Council elections, which were held on May 25th, 2014, Samo-pomich union was voted the third with a score of 7%.

OUR PRINCIPLES AND GO-AHEAD PLAN

Strengthening the defense potential of Ukraine and restoration of a full sovereignty throughout the country; strengthening its position in the global safety system;

Cleaning up public services sector from people whose work detriments the country; transforma-tion of civil servants into professional, e�cient, and politically impartial workers and public policy executives;

Increasing the weight of local government in the governmental system of Ukraine; maximum focus of governmental actions on the needs of citizens;

Ensuring fair, righteous, and independent judici-ary, as well as formation of independent and pro-fessional law enforcement;

Creating conditions for development of successful social market economy with fair rules of the game and opportunities for free realization of citizen’s business potential;

«Okhmatdyt», Member of the Supervisory Board of Bogomolets National Medical University. One of the coordinators of Ukrainian anti-tobacco campaign, which was recognized as one of the most successful advocacy campaigns in Ukraine. She served as a coordinator of international advocacy NGO «Campaign for children’s future without smoking», the US- and World- leader in the fight against tobacco epidemic; partner of Bloomberg Global Initiative to reduce tobacco consumption (2007-2010); expert of the UN initiative «Environment and Security»; consultant of missions of Convention Secretariat of WHO in fight against tobacco and assessment of needs in tobacco control in Kyrgyzstan, Georgia.

From December 2013 a member of Center of free legal help to victims of protests on Independence Square, Kyiv. In 2014 joined the group of law-yers for protecting the rights and interests of families of «Heaven Hun-dred».
