Our mission is to humanise institutions

We use art to improve healing and promote well-being, in any type of institution where children or adults need to spend time

away from home.

Our mission: brightening lives

Clinical environment in any type of healthcare centre can provoke fear and disarray among patients and

residents. Our vision is a world in which illness, accidents and aging become a less traumatic and

fearful experience thanks to an institution’s reassuring and welcoming atmosphere.

We use music and art to improve healing and promote well-being, in social and medical institutions

where children or adults spend time away from home.

Our impact: increasing well-being

Over 650 scientific publications and years of experience have shown that the environment has a huge

impact on patients’ recovery and wellbeing. Through our paintings we help to:

Our methodology: bespoke projects

Our team of artists paint therapeutic murals based on the principles of art therapy and evidence-

based design in hospitals, special needs institutions, orphanages, psychiatric centres and nursing

homes. This improves the well-being of the patients, residents, families and staff.

We always work in close collaboration with the staff of the chosen institution to create a project fully

adapted to their needs. The result is a tailored-made project achieved in a quick, efficient and cost-

effective manner.

Brighten and improve working conditions (reported by 100% of staff): a welcoming

environment has a positive influence on the treatment of patients and wellbeing of the staff

(their motivation is increased, there is less running and shouting).

Reduce anxiety (reported by 89% of patients, families and staff): a soothing atmosphere

brings comfort to patients and their families (patients are less agitated, children cry less).

Encourage interaction (reported by 96% of staff) and improve communication (reported

by 91% of families): caregivers use the murals as a storytelling tool to engage with the

patients, communicate, stimulate, orient, and explain any planned activities (children are

distracted during treatments, older patients are stimulated).

OUR VALUES

Anouk is a determined and loving girl with special needs who thrives when in

WHO WE ARE

We are not a grant-making foundation but an operating non-profit organisation founded in 2008, with

an annual budget of CHF 500’000.-

All our projects are made possible thanks to the generosity of donors and through a close

collaboration with over 90 local partners.

All projects are coordinated from the office in Geneva by our two Co-Directors, Beatriz Aristimuño and

Vanessa von Richter. The accounts are audited by Berney & Associés S.A., Geneva, the Foundation is

regulated by the Federal Surveillance Authority (DFI) and governed by Swiss law.

We are very grateful to Banque Eric Sturdza who covers part of our administrative costs (office space,

IT maintenance, postage fees, etc.) and to Sikkens (Akzo Nobel) who supplies us with high quality non-

toxic paint.

The Board Members, who come from diverse backgrounds, are responsible for setting the strategy and

meet twice a year and are updated throughout the year The project managers update them on all

projects and operations of the Foundation.

We have 10 years’ experience working with 90 local institutions all over Europe.

Our method is based on the principles of art therapy and the findings of scientific publications of the

positive effect that soothing surroundings have on our health.

We work with a team of professional, independent and experienced artists who follow an ongoing

training programme on the artistic, psychological and hospital-related aspects of their activities. To

date we have trained 30 artists and work with 7 professional artists on a regular basis. On average,

each artist works 20 weeks per year on assignments across Europe.

Each project is realised in a fast, efficient and cost-effective manner: we work on-site in fully operating

wards completing projects in a few weeks.

…TOWARDS DIRECT AND SUSTAINABLE IMPACT

…IN A PROFESSIONAL, RELIABLE AND TRANSPARENT MANNER

We co-create projects with the artists, staff (doctors, nurses, educators) and patients/residents. The

theme of each project and all paintings are discussed between all parties, to be adapted to the

institution, pathology, age and cultural background of the patients/residents.

Since our creation in 2008, we have completed 160 projects in 15 countries. We facilitate long-term and

visible investments by transforming stark and impersonal healthcare facilities into comforting and

friendly ones. We use non-toxic, high-quality, water-based paint with a minimum lifespan of 15 years so

our therapeutic murals can continue to benefit future patients/residents.
