Institutional set upProgress, status and findings

Member engagement: Member organisations have been engaged in line with the stakeholder engagement process and to date we have received comments from 17 out of 23 member organisations.

Members’ feedback: Member’s feedback has consistently focused on a number of key issues including:

• Institution type - The options for the proposed institutional set up

• Mandate - Whether ADSG should have an enforcement role and what type?

• Mission - The extent to which ADSG should provide policy advice?

• Membership - If it made sense to limit ADSGs remit strictly to Abu Dhabi only?

• Business planning - The provision of more details, for the products and services and to align these to the strategy including a revenue/funding/costing model.

Feedback has been incorporated into Version 0.4 of the discussion document sent to members earlier

AD Annual Sustainability Forum

AD Annual Sustainability Forum task force: A task force was launched in January 2010 with the mandate to produce a draft agenda

Tentative Agenda: A draft agenda was presented by the task force in January 2010. Due to general budget constrains in government entities it was decided to postpone the forum until 2011.

Potential partnerships: The ADSG general Secretariat was approached in February by Abu Dhabi University (ADU) to examine the feasibility of establishing a joint venture to organize an Annual Sustainability Forum. Due to changes in management at AIM, the event management company linked to ADU this option is in stand-by.

International cooperation

• Partnerships: 3 partnerships to be concluded in 2011:– Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), a Netherlands based multi-stakeholder

network that develops and disseminates one of the world's most prevalent standards for sustainability reporting. • The partnership will be focused in becoming a GRI-certified training provider to help ADSG

members to deliver on their commitment to produce annual sustainability reports.

– International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), a Canadian-based, public policy research institute. • The partnership will be focused in using the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Index as a basis to

engage government entities, private companies and not for profit organizations to agree on the sustainability issues and recommended actions to contribute to achieve Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.

– Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) Europe and Marrakech Task Force on Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP), an international initiative to promote sustainable public procurement in developing and developed countries launched by the government of Switzerland in 2005, as one of seven Task Forces under the Marrakech Process on Sustainable Consumption and Production, which is lead by UNEP and UNDESA. • The partnership will be focused in getting technical assistance to design and implement initiatives to

enable the local government to embrace best practices regarding sustainable procurement through the adaptation to the local context of existing toolkits such as the Status Assessment tool for national governments or the development of new tools.
