•You will need to decide if you want to study abroad or do a work placement very soon as the deadline for the exchange application is 5 February 2010
Where can I study?
• Europe – Italy, Spain, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria
• Canada – HEC Montreal
• Mexico – Tec de Monterray
• All partners are linked on our website
• Please note that if you want to apply for Mexico please contact the International & Graduate Office
Will I receive funding for my year abroad?
• Students who study abroad on Erasmus are entitled to a grant for up to 10 months study (or combined study & work)
• If you received an Erasmus study grant in yr 3 you are not entitled to a study grant in yr 4
• Students are only entitled to one Erasmus grant for study in total and one for a work placement (3-12 mths) in a lifetime
• Erasmus grant amounts in 09-10 were 225 Euro a month for study and for work. Please note these amounts are not fixed and vary each year
Neil Hood Memorial Fund
• If you are applying for an exchange outside Europe you may wish to apply to the Neil Hood Memorial Fund
• Usually grants available annually for Strathclyde business students
• Competition is based on academic merit and financial need
• Application and further info online - www.strath.ac.uk/business/undergraduate/international/outgoing/neilhoodfundscholarship/
Switzerland
• For students studying French you may wish to go to Lausanne in Switzerland
• The Swiss government operate a shadow Erasmus scheme where you can receive a grant equivalent to Erasmus (good for those who were on an Erasmus grant last year)
When do I apply?
• Application deadline is 5 February 2010
• You are not guaranteed your first choice of institution - need to put your preferences on the application form and explain why you are applying for each
• We will do our best to match your preferences, though some destinations may be more in demand than others
• The less popular the destination – the more likely you are to secure a place!
• Keep an open mind and explore all the options
What forms do I fill in?
• 1 – Green Application Form - Fill in the form indicating your preferences and return to SBS Exchange Office
• 2 – Learning Agreement Form – Fill in when you have been allocated to a host university (March)
• 3 – Erasmus forms – Need to be returned to exchange office as soon as you have registered for classes or before your work placement begins.
How long can I study abroad?
• You have the option of completing either –
1 - an academic year studying abroad
or
2 - a 6 month authorised work placement and report
or
3 – a semester of study and a 3 month authorised work placement and report
Will my credits transfer?
• Study – You need to pass 40 ECTS credits (30 ECTS credits in a combination of business and language classes, and 10 ECTS credits of electives which can be in English and in any subject of interest to you)
• Work - You need to pass 40 ECTS credits for a 6 month work placement , 20 ECTS credits for a 3 month work placement
• The year abroad is not a holiday and you will have to work hard and pass your credit requirements
• We will receive a transcript of your grades and decide whether you have passed the year at the end of your studies overseas and make a recommendation to the exam board at Strathclyde on your progress

What do our students say?
“Studying abroad in Germany was and will always be the best year of my life. Being able to integrate yourself into a foreign culture and become more independent is a great feeling. Going home is the only bad thing! I would recommend it to anyone."Cameron MacInnes, IBML student, University of Mannheim, Germany
What do our students say?
"Studying abroad really gives you the opportunity to develop your language skills. Learning and working in a foreign language means you are continuously learning new vocabulary and will give you greater confidence to speak it too."Iain Stewart, IBML, Bordeaux Ecole de Management, France
What do our students say?
"The best part about studying abroad was meeting new people from all over Europe and experiencing a new culture. I would recommend that everyone does it because it turns out to be the best year of your life.....it is so much fun and seriously changes your outlook and improves your language."Rachel King, IBML, University of Granada, Spain
