Definition of body language
• Body language is a part of non-verbal language. It includes things like stance, gestures, facial expressions.
• Even small things that are barely perceptible like a brief shrug of the shoulder or nod of the head..
Significance of body language
• Nonverbal language is an even bigger category, which includes things like tone of voice.
• 7% of meaning is in the words that are spoken.
• 38% is the way that the words are said, tone of voice, and
• 55% is in facial expression!

• Humans pride themselves on their seemingly unique ability to verbalize feelings and ideas.
• While the mouth tells one story, gestures and posture may tell a different story.
• Each gesture is like a sentence • The sum total of postures and gestures
relate a non-verbal story
So what’s the deal?• Everyone speaks with body language-
whether we intend to or not- here are some features you can recognize in yourself and in others.
• While these ideas are scientifically proven there may be instances where they are incorrect!
“Closed” gestures Arms crossed, legs crossed,
looking down or away. What does it mean??
For the most part, people do this when they feel threatened, cold, or sense a need to hide.
How do you change it? You can also give them something to hold, this makes the object a blocker, but allows a person to person opening.
“Evaluating” Gestures Clasping hands, intense gaze, rubbing nose, and pushing up
glasses. What does it mean?
Generally, when people make these movements, they are mentally evaluating someone or something. Additionally, it is possible that an individual is attempting to make a decision and are concentrating, while performing these behaviors.
“Aggressive” Gestures opening stance (legs and
arms), facial reddening, dropping hands into fists,
nose flareWhat does it mean?
While it’s impossible to predict if someone will act aggressively, it’s a good idea to be cautious and avoid confrontation. Additionally, people who continually take on these mannerisms are generally believed to be quick tempered.
“Defensive” Gestures Fingers to mouth, lowing chin,
holding out arms, holding a small object,
What does it mean?Arms, hands and legs are generally used to shield a person if they feel threatened. Performing these mannerisms is a well received indicator that a person is feeling belittled, scolded or simply unwanted.
“Romantic” Gestures Repeatedly looking at
someone, leaning forward, batting eyes,, lightly
touching arms, blushing.What does it mean?
For the most part, this means that an individual is showing interest, it may specifically mean person likes you.

NO Gestures • Folding Arms • Drumming • Hand holding the chin • Feet and trunk pointed oppositely• Hand covering the mouth
Conclusion
• People observe your body language almost as much as they listen to what you are saying and the end result is that they believe your body language more than what your words.
