Paulo Coelho• Paulo Coelho was born on August 24, 1947 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

• He worked as a theater director, actor, lyricist and as a journalist.

• During the 60’s and 70’s he published unsuccessful Hell Archives.

• After success of The Pilgrimage he wrote The Alchemist in1988. Over 65 million copies were sold throughout the world and it won several international awards.

• Some of the books written by the author are : Veronica decides to die, Eleven minutes, By the River

Piedra I sat down and wept, Brida, Warrior of light, Beautiful disaster, The devil and miss Prym and The zahir.

CONTEXTThe Alchemist is a novel by a Brazilian-born author Paulo

Coelho. It was published in 1988. Originally written in Portuguese and so far has been translated into at least 56 languages.

CONT…• Santiago’s hawks fighting omen saved oasis. • “When a person really desires something all the

universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream.” (Alchemist).

• “It’s not what enters mouth is evil, evil is what comes out from mouth.” (Alchemist).

• Love is not more important than one’s personal legend.

• Met Fatima for the last time, assuring her that he will come back. Both didn’t want to leave.

• Sets journey towards Pyramids but mind was still occupied by Fatima’s memories.

• Santiago didn’t want to continue but alchemist forced him.

• “Everyone on earth has a treasure who awaits him”. • Santiago Communicated with wind and sun and

transformed himself into wind.• Alchemist left him and he travelled alone to pyramids.• He dug near pyramids but found nothing. Robbers

arrived their and robbed him of all gold and money.• Santiago told his dream, they laughed and considered

him foolish. Robber told him that he also had a dream of treasure buried in an abandoned church in Spain under sycamore tree but he is not foolish to believe such a stupid dream.

• Santiago discovered his treasure. He went to Spain, dug under and the tree and found the treasure.

• Decided to go Tarifa and to Fatima to fulfill his promise.

Expectations of writer……• The Alchemist is much connected to our lives• Everyone in his life has some dream, but some

just surrender it while some chase them until success.

• We should never give up and keep trying until succeeded.

• Some people have good resources but they lack determination and hard work.

• Many people think that “Opportunity and determination” both are needed to achieve your goal but in our view if we are determinant and passionate, we will succeed in our goal.

• Set our aims and follow them with full passion.• Nothing is impossible.• Although the journey to success is difficult but it

has a big reward.
