Scotland’s World Cup Qualifying Campaign:
The Road To Rio
Scotland started their qualifying campaign with two home matches against Serbia and Macedonia.
A disappointing 0-0 draw was the end result for Craig Levein’s side in their opening fixture.
In a 1-1 draw with Macedonia Kenny Miller equalised for the Scots just before half time.
Levein’s start was not what many had expected and already the manager was feeling the pressure.
In an away double header Scotland faced Wales and Belgium.
Scotland were hard done by in Wales and lost the match 2-1 in the remaining ten minutes by two Gareth Bale goals.
Craig Levein was beginning to feel the pressure as Scotland have only picked up 2 points in their opening 3
fixtures.
In a must-win match away to group leaders Belgium, Craig Levein recalled striker Stephen Fletcher and
captain Darren Fletcher came back in to the side after injury.
After a fall out with former manager George Burley, Stephen Fletcher and manager Levein called a truce on his exile from
international football as Scotland desperately needed more fire power up front.
Scotland failed to win in Belgium and were taught a lesson in a 2-0 away defeat.
Vincent Kompany scored a sublime individual goal to increase Belgium’s lead to 2-0 and left The Tartan Army
calling for Levein’s head.
Craig Levein was soon axed as Scotland boss after only gaining 2 points from 4 matches in Scotland’s qualifying campaign.
It was an inevitable event that has left Scotland bottom of Group a and dreams of playing in Rio in 2014 will remain just that…
Scotland hire former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan as the man to lead the The Tartan Army in the remaining
qualifying fixtures.
The S.F.A hope Strachan is the right man to replace Craig Levein and saw his first game in charge start with a win against Estonia at Pittodrie in February.
