    PROGRAM BREAK UP

    The duration of B.A./B.Sc. (Hons.) will be of

    Four Years (Eight Semesters).

    Each academic year shall be divided into TwoSemesters.

    Each Semester will be of 18 weeks duration

    including 16 weeks for teaching and 02 weeksfor Tests and Examinations.

    PROGRAM BREAK UP

    A student of B.A./B.Sc. (Hons.) have to

    complete atleast 130 credit hours, out of which

    06 Credit Hours are of Research

    Dissertation, for the completion of Degree.

    He/she has to score 2.50 CGPA to pass the

    B.A./B.Sc. (Hons.) Examination.

    He/she has to complete the B.A./B.Sc. (Hons.)

    within Six years of his/her first admission in

    the program

    WEIGHTAGE OF MARKS

    The weightage of marks for each course in a

    Semester shall be as under.

    Semester Work 25 marks

    Mid Semester Test 25 marksFinal Examination 50 marks

    Total 100 marks

    Semester Work:Quizzes/ Term Papers/ Projects etc. given by the respective

    teacher to the students in a Semester will be called

    Semester Work.

    MID SEMESTER TEST

    A Mid Semester Test will be conducted in the Ninthweek.

    Mid Semester Test will be conducted by the Chairpersonof the concerned department in coordination with theController of Examinations.

    The Attendance Sheet of Mid Semester Test will be sentto the Office of the Controller of Examinations after halfan hour of the start of paper on the day of Test.

    The result of Mid Semester Test shall be sent by theChairperson of the Department to the Controller of

    Examinations within 05 days positively after the last dayof Mid Semester Test.

    The result of Mid Semester Test and Semester Workonce submitted by the Chairperson of the department tothe Controller of Examinations will not be revised.

    ATTENDANCE CRITERIA A student must attend 85 percent of the lectures delivered

    in each course in a semester to be eligible to appear in theFinal Examination of that course.

    In case a student does not attend 85% of the lectures

    delivered in any course/s in a Semester, he/she will not be

    allowed to appear in the Final Examination of thatcourse/s. He/she will be awarded In (Incomplete) grade

    in such course/s. Such students will have to repeat the

    concerned course/s in a forthcoming Semester which offers

    the course/s.

    The list of Eligible candidates for the Final Examination

    shall be notified by the Controller of Examinations before

    the start of Final Examination of each Semester

    FINAL EXAMINATION OF SEMESTER

    There will be a Final Examination at the end of each

    Semester covering the whole prescribed syllabus for

    each course.

    The Final Examination shall be conducted by the

    Chairperson of the Department in coordination with

    the Controller of Examinations.

    The Attendance Sheet of Final Examination will be

    sent to the Office of the Controller of Examinations

    after half an hour of the start of Examination.

    APPOINTMENT OF INTERNAL

    EXAMINER

    An Internal Examiner will be appointed by

    the Controller of Examinations on the

    recommendation of Departmental Board ofStudies for each course in a Semester.

    QESTION PAPER OF FINAL EXAMINATION

    The Internal Examiner will set Question Paper for

    Final Examination and send the question paper in asealed envelope to the Controller of ExaminationsOne month before the date of Final Examination set

    by the Office of Controller of Examinations.

    The weightage of Syllabus for the Question Paperof Final Examination should be as follows:

    Up till Mid Semester Test 25%

    From Mid Semester Test to Final Examination 75%.

    There will be One Compulsory Question of 10 markscontaining MCQs (each MCQ should have 05 fivealternate choices) and 05 Descriptive Questions of 10marks each. A student has to attempt 04 DescriptiveQuestions out of 05 .

    QESTION PAPER OF FINAL EXAMINATION

    The Questions either MCQs or Descriptive should be appliedin nature.

    The Question Paper should be a Computer Printout. Hand

    written Question Papers will not be acceptable. It is compulsory for the Internal Examiner to submit the

    Solution of Question Paper along with it.

    In case of objective question KEY, in case of SubjectiveQuestions, main headings which are required and in case of

    Mathematical Problems, detailed solution must be given.

    MARKING OF ANSWER SCRIPTS

    The Internal Examiner will mark the Answer

    Scripts and return the same along with the

    Award List to the Controller of Examination

    within 05 Days of Conduct of Examination as

    specified by the Controller of Examinations.

    GRADING SYSTEM

    In GC University Lahore we use the Grade PointAverage (GPA) system.

    Final grade in each course shall be awarded to the

    students on the basis of marks obtained by thestudents and his/her relative position in the class

    in the respective course.

    These grades then translated into Grade Points

    (GP) for determining a students standing at the

    end of every semester.

    WHAT IS GPA

    GRADE POINT AVERAGE (GPA)

    Performance in any semester is reported in Grade Point Average.

    This is the average of weighted grade points earned in the courses

    taken during the semester. The Grade Point Average is obtained by

    dividing the sum of Grade Points attained in each course by the total

    number of Credit hours for that semester.

    GRADE POINT (GP)

    Grade Point = Numeric Value of Grade x Credit Hours

    CREDIT HOURS

    Credit hours are weights assigned to a course. One credit is

    equivalent to One hour of class per week for course of theory and

    two hours of laboratory work per week for the course of practical for

    an academic semester

    CRITERIA TO QUALIFY THE SEMESTER

    A student shall qualify the course if he/she scores at

    least 50% marks in the Semester Work, Mid SemesterTest and Final Examination combined.

    A student shall qualify the semester if CGPA is at

    least 2.50.

    No grace marks will be awarded to the students.

    A student who fails to score at least 1.50 CGPA in a

    Semester will be dropped from the program.

    A student will be given Only one chance to improve

    the F orIn Grade

    PROBATION

    A student who scores CGPA between 1.50 to2.50 in a Semester; may be conditionally

    promoted to the next semester and he/she will

    be placed on probation. In case he/she fails to

    score 2.50 CGPA in the Semester of Probation,

    his/her name will be dropped from the

    University Rolls.

    IMPROVEMENT OF GRADE

    A student can be given only one chance to

    improve D grade in a course of a Semester

    after which his/her CGPA is below 2.50. The

    improvement is only possible by repeating the

    course/s along with the forthcoming semester

    which offers the course/s, subject to the

    maximum length of the program

    DISSERTATION

    Dissertation is compulsory requirement of the

    B.A./B.Sc. (Hons.) degree. The topics of Dissertation will be allotted to the

    student in Seventh Semester and the students will have

    to submit it within One month after the last day of

    Final Examination of Eighth Semester.

    A Board of Examiners consisting of Internal

    Examiner, External Examiner and Convener of Board

    of Studies shall evaluate the Dissertation in an oral(VIVA VOCE) Examination. In case the Dissertation

    does not meet the minimum standard the board may

    recommend a revision and one time re-submission of

    the Dissertation.

    DISSERTATION

    The candidate should be informed in writing by the

    Convener about the changes he/she has to make under

    intimation to the Controller of Examinations within

    07 days of the Examination.

    The candidate should resubmit the Dissertation to the

    Chairperson, after making the changes proposed by

    the Board of Examiners, within Two months of the

    date of declaration of result. The Chairperson of the

    Department shall reconvene the meeting of the Board

    of Examiners to evaluate re-submitted Dissertation

    SEMESTER FREEZE

    A student may take a Semester off by applying for a

    Semester Freeze. Such student must submit an

    application to the Registrar Office duly recommended

    by the Academic Committee of the concerned

    department within Two Weeks of the start of Semester. No application of Semester Freeze will be entertained

    after two weeks of the start of the Semester.

    Students may freeze their semesters for a maximum of

    one year .

    Such student should rejoin the program in the

    following academic year

    QUALIFYING EXAMINATION AT THE END OF PROGRAM

    At the end of program the Controller of Examinations will

    conduct an Externally Evaluated Qualifying Examination that

    shall cover the major courses studied during the program.

    A student will be eligible to appear in the Qualifying

    Examination who has qualified all the Semesters.

    The Departmental Board of Studies shall prepare the detail of

    major courses to be tested and Number of Papers for

    Qualifying Examination.

    A student shall qualify the Qualifying Examination if he/she

    scores 50% marks in each paper.

    A student will be given only One chance (Re-sit) to qualify the

    Qualifying Examination after the first Examination.

    POSITION AND GOLD MEDAL

    Gold Medal shall be awarded to a student who has topped the list

    of the successful candidates; provided that he /she has passed the

    Final Examinations of all Semesters and Qualifying Examination

    in first chance offered by the University.

    The Re-admission cases in the same or revised courses or new

    courses leading to the change of nomenclature of the Degree or

    cases of Semester Break/ Probation/ Marks Improvement will not

    be considered for the award of Gold Medal/Position.

    The first position shall be determined on the basis of Total Marksobtained in all Semesters.

    The Controller of Examinations will be responsible for the

    declaration of Positions.
