Cultural features

EXPLORE

In a society where one of the customs for women is to wear totally black abaya (cape) her options to express personality gets limited. Participating to Art Festival with the theme "Foundation" we've taken

Abaya as a foundation and challenged it by colour.

Presentation for clients

Page 17: Presentation for clients - Texspiretexspire.com/.../TEXPIRE_presentation_03-2017_EN.pdf · Presentation for clients The results of an experiment conducted in the Kingdom of Bahrain

EXPLOREMain task:

Goal was to make sociological research and to find out: if contemporary society in the Gulf, where Abaya is an "imported" element, is ready for such radical changes?

Solution:We've challenged abaya with colour. Chosen colour was neon-yellow for two reasons. Firstly, yellow – is a colour of Solar Plexus chakra, which corresponds to the ability to express personality. Secondly, neon-yellow is used for best visibility in the desert areas.

EXPLORETHE RESULT

Presentation for clients

The results of an experiment conducted in the Kingdom of Bahrain showed that 95% of people reacted positively. They are ready for a change of black abayas to a lighter colours. Our model which

was presented during "Alwan 338" Art Festival became a grotesque visualisation of this idea. The final result has inspired local designers

for bold experiments with colours and patterns. Thus gradually started to change cultural landscape of the whole region.

DESIGNGoal:

Main objective of the project is to introduce emergent brand from Kingdom of Bahrain to the Western market. At such competitive market, it's necessary to have unique style and personal identity.

Cultural background:Inspiration motives for design development were shape of the bahraini island and local mentality which were expressed by colour palette, silhouettes and pattern design. In order to establish strong concept we carefully studied stereotypes about the region and twisted it in a more sophisticated way. We designed unique style to emphasize and enhance femininity of a woman in a modern society.

DESIGNSolution:

Combining new technologies of finishing with traditional methodsof embellishment we were able to break into new exciting dimensions. Fine embroidery and traditional patterns were transformed into modern digital patterns. Two perspectives coexist harmoniously together, creating charming and eye-catching effect. Patterns inspired by terrain view from satellite give feeling of space and motives of fruitful date palm trees add vital sophistication.
