MITTAL

ABOUT HIM :

was born in Ludhiana, Punjab, India. His father, Sat Pal

Mittal had been the Member of Parliament (M.P) from

Ludhiana. He first joined the Wynberg Allen School in

Mussoorie but later attended Scindia School at Gwalior

and he graduated in 1976 from Punjab University,

Chandigarh, with a Bachelor of Arts and Science for

which he studied in Arya College for Boys, a local college

in Ludhiana.

ENTREPRENEURIAL VENTURES :

 Mittal started his first business in April 1976 , at the age of

18, with a capital investment of 20,000.  His first business was

to make crankshafts for local bicycle manufacturers.

  In 1980, he along with his brothers Rakesh, Rajan started an

Import Enterprise named Bharti Overseas Trading Corporation

In 1981, he purchased importing licences from exporting

companies in Punjab. He then imported thousands of Suzuki

Motors's portable electric-powergenerators from Japan

In 1984, he started assembling push-button phones in

India, which he earlier used to import from a Taiwan

company.

 In 1995, Sunil Mittal founded Bharti Cellular Limited

(BCL) to offer cellular services under the brand name

AirTel. Soon, Bharti became the first telecom company to

cross the 2-million mobile subscriber mark.

PERSONAL LIFE :

Mittal resides in Delhi.

He is married and has three children

GROUP OVERVIEW :

Founded in 1976, by Sunil Bharti Mittal, Bharti has grown from

being a manufacturer of bicycle parts to one of the largest and

most respected business groups in India. 

Bharti started its telecom services business by launching mobile

services in Delhi (India) in 1995. Since then there has been no

Through its global telecom operations Bharti group operates

under the ‘Airtel’ brand in 19 countries across Asia and Africa–

India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Seychelles, Burkina Faso, Chad, and

many more.

What sets Bharti apart from the rest is its ability to

. Over the years some of biggest names in international

business have partnered Bharti. Currently, Singtel, IBM,

Ericsson, Nokia Siemens and Alcatel-Lucent are key

partners in telecom.

Walmart is Bharti’s partner for its cash & carry venture.

 Axa Group is the partner for the financial service

business and Del Monte Pacific for the processed foods

division.

Bharti Airtel Ltd. : the 5th largest mobile operator in the

world in terms of subscriber base and has a presence in 19

countries.

Bharti Infratel Limited : The company deploys and manages

telecom towers and communication structure for various

wireless operators. In India,it has over 32,000 towers, across 18

states and 11 Telecom circles, and still growing.

Bharti Retail Ltd. :  is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharti

Enterprises. Bharti Retail has opened 59 stores in

Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and New Delhi

Bharti TeleTech Ltd. : is India’s leading telecom & allied

products company. It is one of the largest manufacturers of

landline telephones in the world. With a strong distribution

network across the country, the company is also the primary

distributor of IT and Telecom products from international

brands such as Motorola, Blackberry,etc.

Comviva Technologies Limited : is an India based

organization providing VAS solutions for mobile operators

around the world.

FieldFresh Foods Pvt. Ltd.: The company offers fresh

fruits & vegetables and processed foods & beverages in the

domestic as well as international markets.

Bharti Realty :

 is the in-house Real Estate Arm for Bharti Group and

facilitates by extending support to the Group Companies for

Identifying, Developing and Maintaining Real Estate.

Bharti Enterprises has  a joint venture with AXA ,together

offering a range of General And Life Insurance and Mutual

Funds.
