TEACHING GRAMMAR
How to teach grammar
As we know grammar is one of the most difficult aspects of language to teach well.
Many teachers teach grammar by explaining the forms and rules and then drilling students on them.
This old method is bored and often students make errors when they try to use the language in context.
I think that the best way to teach grammar is through:
PowerPoint presentations games puzzles or seeing videos.
we should limit the time of explanations to 10minutes
should provide examples and use them as teaching tools.
Past tense Traditional method teach the regular -ed form with its two
pronunciation variants teach the doubling rule for verbs that
end in -d (wed-wedded) land out a list of irregular verbs that
students must memorize. do pattern practice drills for -ed. do substitution drills for irregular verbs
Past tense Communicative competence model the purpose of
learning grammar is to learn the language of which the grammar is a part.
-distribute two short narratives about recent events, each one to half of the class.
-teach the regular -ed form, using verbs that occur in the text as examples. teach the pronunciation and doubling rules if those forms occur in the texts.
-teach the irregular verbs of the texts. -students read the narratives, ask questions about
points they don't understand. -students work in pairs and interview one another
about the stories that they read. -than using the information from the interview,
they write up or orally repeat the story they have not read.
Any question???
Hope it will be helpful for you in the future!
