The QUF (Quick Urban Forest) project is a European project, funded by the Life + Programme of the European Commission, which aims at contributing to the improvement of the life and environment of European urban industrial areas by testing and demonstrating the feasibility of combining forestation related techniques in degraded areas We aim to create green spaces and restore lands in the cities without irrigation infrastructure.
Start 01/08/13 -‐ End 30/06/16
30,000 plants of 6 mediterranean native species have been planted, between 2014 and 2015, using three kinds of treatments (mycorrhizal, retainers and both together) in a demonstration site in the city of Valladolid.
Monitoring the evolution of the plantation and environmental indicators through new technologies (ground sensors -‐ humidity and temperature-‐ and air) The creation of the GSEC ( Green City in Southern Europe ) to exchange experiences and promote the realization the urban plantation group. The creation of a White Book where all the information and results of the experience is collected.
To increase trees survival up to 30% To get more of 20% biomass (on average) in relation to the average of surrounding trees Capture of at least 6 tonnes of CO2 in the first two years 10% reduction of harmful gases and particles in the atmosphere Increase of at least 1% of the organic matter in soil planting Improved average humidity of air and soil in the planting areas Improve soil quality in planted area Create an urban park for the citizens of Valladolid

We make a statistical design
Although further research is needed, preliminary results suggest the following: Retainer is the most effective treatment by increasing the survival rate between 40% and 50% Mycorrhiza is the less effective method The combination of both treatments (mycorrhiza and retainer), do not improve water retainers efficiency
