Udaipur, in the heart of Rajasthan, is a 16th century city where myths unravel at every turn of
its by-lanes and legends shimmer on its lakes. The land of the kings of Mewar and their palaces,
temples and havelis, Udaipur is a Lake City that is often called the Venice of the East.
The City Palace built between 1567 and 1955 is one of the main attractions and the largest palace
complex in Rajasthan. An amazing conglomeration of buildings with balconies, towers, marble
arches and cupolas, it is also a storehouse of Rajasthani art with beautiful miniatures and rare Osler’s
crystals housed in the Crystal Gallery.
Jagdish Temple, built in 1651, enshrines a black stone image of Lord Vishnu as the Lord of
the Universe.
Kumbalgarh, a 15th century fort amidst the Aravalli Hills, is a 2.5 hours’ drive from the city. Breached
only once in its five hundred year old history, the walls of the Kumbalgarh fort stretch over 36 kms
and enclose many temples, palaces and gardens.
Ranakpur, 90 kms from the city, is one of the largest Jain temple complexes in India, and possibly
the most beautiful. Built in the 15th century and set against lush forest vegetation, its marble temples
have numerous halls and thousands of intricately carved pillars, no two of which are alike.
Chittorgarh is famous for a war fought over its beautiful queen, Rani Padmini. When defeat was
imminent, the queen committed self-immolation or ‘Johar’ to avoid being captured by enemy soldiers.
Bada Mahal Wildlife Conservatory, adjacent to the hotel, is a 20-acre sanctuary close to
Lake Pichola and is the natural habitat of peacocks, blue frock pigeons, wild boar and spotted deer.
Udaipur’s rich heritage and tradition of artistry also make it the perfect shopping destination for

For centuries, travellers from all over the world have been drawn to the majesty and colour of Rajasthan
and its capital city, Jaipur. Founded more than 250 years ago by the astronomer king, Maharaja Jai
Singh II, Jaipur is known as the ‘Pink City’ because of the traditional pink architecture of its old city.
Modern day Jaipur is vibrant with palaces, forts and camel carts making their way through streets
packed with cars. The markets with a fine selection of gemstones and craft are a shoppers’ paradise.
Hawa Mahal, the five-storeyed Palace of Winds with its delicate honeycombed sandstone windows
was built in 1799 as a gallery from where royal ladies could view the city.
The 18th century City Palace is a mesmerizing display of Rajput and Mughal architecture with
massive grey and white columns, a series of beautiful courtyards, gardens, grand buildings
and Halls of Public and Private Audience.
The Amber Fort, overlooking the Mansagar Lake, was built in 1592 and is an excellent example
of Rajput architecture in red sandstone and white marble. Its features include an awe-inspiring
Mirror Palace, the Sheesh Mahal, with inlaid panels and mirrored ceilings. The Tiger Fort of
Nahargarh, built in 1734, is a favourite vantage point to watch the sun set over the city. Jaipur
is also well known as a treasure-hunter’s paradise. With exclusive stores, where traditional textile
designs and techniques are applied on contemporary garments and home linen. And its famed
bazaars, rich with block printed fabrics, pottery, handicrafts, silver jewellery, precious and semi-
precious gemstones, papier-machè and intricately carved furniture.
The attractions of this 250 year old ‘Pink City’ of the Rajputshave only become more vibrant with time.

of princely Rajasthan. The beautifully appointed rooms are clustered around intimate courtyards
and have luxurious bathrooms with sunken marble tubs overlooking private walled gardens.
The resort also has luxury tents and romantic villas with private pools, while carefully selected
therapies in the spa complete the experience. Dining al fresco by the light of the mashaals
(ancient flame-torches), as you watch traditional performers bring alive the culture and colour
of Rajasthan in the richly embellished fort setting, is truly magical.
Strolling through ornamental gardens that conjure images of royal pageantry of kings and queens,
noblemen and princesses; or viewing exquisite examples of rare Rajasthani jewellery… It’s easy to feel
like royalty when you are a guest at The Oberoi Rajvila-s.

Agra is the only city in the world that boasts of three UNESCO World Heritage Sites - the
Taj Mahal, the Agra Fort and the old capital of Fatehpur Sikri. All legacies of the Mughal Empire from
the 16th and 17th centuries. It is no wonder then that Agra is the most visited destination in India.
The Taj Mahal, built in 1653, has been described as the most extravagant tribute to love. The
poignant mausoleum of its creator, Emperor Shahjahan and his beloved queen, Mumtaz Mahal.
Crafted over 15 years by about 20,000 artisans from India and Central Asia, the Taj Mahal is among
the seven Wonders of the World, made of shimmering white marble contrasted by intricate inlay
work, fine tracery and carving.
Agra Fort standing handsomely in red sandstone is almost as breathtaking. Built in 1571, its colossal
walls, encircled by a moat, tell tales of Emperor Akbar’s military might, while the palatial additions
in white marble are testimony to the poetic vision of his grandson, Emperor Shahjahan. Today,
the maze of buildings within the fort walls form a virtual city waiting to be explored.
Fatehpur Sikri, the dream capital city of Emperor Akbar, is 37 kms from Agra. This beautifully
planned city founded in 1571 boasts of perfectly proportioned palaces, mosques, courtyards and
ornate gateways that conjure images of emperors and their soldiers, harems, musicians and spiritual
advisors. The city was mysteriously abandoned after its construction yet its spell lives on, enthralling
travellers, history buffs and architecture enthusiasts alike.
The bazaars of Agra with their replicas of the Taj Mahal, marble and stone inlay souvenirs, woven
durries, leather bags and shoes are a ‘must-see’.
Home to the architectural vision of the Mughals, including the world’smost magnificent tribute to love, the Taj Mahal.

colonnaded forecourt of the resort to the opulent interiors with gilded ceilings and beautifully
crafted fabrics and furniture, each experience is on a royal scale. The fine international and
Indian cuisine, well appointed spa and the magnificent swimming pool set in a stepped garden
add to the luxury of The Oberoi Amarvila-s.

night. At The Oberoi Amarvila-s you have the luxury of experiencing this magic, without any visiting
hours, from the privacy of your room. As you dine under the stars on your private terrace, the Taj Mahal

to its beauty and offer many natural hideouts for tiger and other wildlife such as panther, wild cat,
hyena, jackal, marsh crocodile, wild boar, bear, many species of deer and a rich birdlife of over
300 species, including the great Indian horned owl.
Ranthambhore Fort is a 10th century fort situated on a hill rising 250 meters above the densely
forested valleys. It has majestic ramparts and a massive gate. The entry point to the Ranthambhore
National Park leads straight to the foot of the fort.
Gilai Sagar, one of the several water bodies in the vicinity of the Park that attracts thousands
of migratory birds, is a 45 minutes drive from the resort.

that Fatehpur Sikri is the greatest accomplishment of Mughal architecture,
surpassed only in reputation but not in its beauty by the Taj Mahal.
The cultural politics of the site remain to be written; perhaps the
mammoth chess board, where human figures were used as chess pieces
and moved at the emperor’s will, provides a clue.
