PRESENT CONTINUOUS
PRESENT CONTINUOUS
• auxiliary (am/are/is) + verb ending in – ing
• Hurry up, we’re going to be late.
• What are you doing over there?
• Why is he acting so strange?
PRESENT CONTINUOUS
• Use:
• We use the present continuous when we talk about something happening RIGHT NOW while we are talking:
• The weather is getting better.
• Are you coming into town with us?
• Ashley is reading a book over there.
PRESENT CONTINUOUS
• Use:
• We use the present continuous when we talk about something temporary:
• My Dad is working in Paris at the moment.
• My brother is studying for his exams.
PRESENT CONTINUOUS
• Use:
• We sometimes use the present continuous to talk about something in the future if it is a fixed plan:
• What are you doing after school?
• We're going shopping tomorrow.
• She is going to study in Nijmegen.
PRESENT CONTINUOUS VERSUS PRESENT SIMPLE
• We use the present continuous for something happening now.
• We use the present simple for routines, habits
• I play tennis. – I can play tennis, this is my hobby/habit
• I play tennis every week. – this is a routine
• I am playing tennis. – this is what I’m doing right now
PRESENT CONTINUOUS VERSUS PRESENT SIMPLE
• We use adverbs with the present simple:
• always, often, frequently, sometimes, occasionally, hardly ever, never
• We use these time expressions with the present continuous:
• at the moment, these days, now, nowadays

• Present continuous: wordt gevormd met een hulpwerkwoord en een werkwoord dat eindigt op “ing”
• Present continuous: wordt gebruikt om aan te geven dat je iets “aan het doen” bent.
• Present continuous: wordt gebruikt voor iets wat NU gebeurt
• Present continuous: wordt gebruikt voor iets tijdelijks
• Present continuous: wordt ook gebruikt voor iets in de toekomst dat al vaststaat
