Message from Perry

Greetings Friends!

It's the word we avoid if at all possible. It's the word that represents for many people their greatest unspoken fear. It's unlike other fears that usually don't even take place. This one eventually takes place for every human being who has ever walked the planet. About what am I speaking? You already guessed it. I am talking about the natural human

tendency for us to fear death.

Is it possible for us to overcome our fear of death? What is the primary reason we fear death? We fear that which we do not understand. The key to overcoming our fear of death is to understand what exactly takes place for the Christian when death occurs. During the month of November, I will lead a sermon series titled, Overcoming Your Fear of Death. In order to gain insight into life after death, we will explore the Scriptures that address this topic. I encourage us all to study the Scripture listed prior to each Sunday's message. This process should help maximize our understanding of each Scripture passage. In turn, we will be equipped and

inspired to apply the Scriptures to our daily lives.

Perry

Youth : Take a second look ******************************************************

November already! Where

have the days gone?

I hope each of you enjoyed

our children’s participation with the adult choir.

Thank you, Dr. Ford, for including us. They feel

very grown up standing in the choir loft with the

adults. As I have already mentioned, we are

working on some beautiful music for Advent. We

are also looking forward to the children and young

people’s annual seasonal program on an upcoming

Wonderful Wednesday night.

As you have probably already seen, the one room

Sunday School is coming together nicely.

Hopefully, the new shelves will be installed by the

time you receive this newsletter.

The CE committee is working on a more thorough

policy concerning the care and education of our

babies and toddlers. We want to impress and

encourage our visitors who have children these

ages to return.

Please continue to pray for and encourage our

children, young people, and their parents (and

especially me).

With love,

Linda May

Children’s Ministry

Wonderful Wednesdays in November

Our November series will follow the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethle-

hem using a DVD study of Adam Hamilton’s best selling book The Journey:

Walking the Road to Bethlehem. Each session will include a 10-12 minute

video of the author retracing the path of the holy couple’s journey. In

addition, we will focus on relevant passages from the Bible and include time

for discussion.

There will not be a Wonderful Wednesday program on November 26, the

day before Thanksgiving.

We will continue into December with special events planned on December

10 and December 18 (Thursday).

December 10 is the annual dinner sponsored by the Margaret Winslett Circle

and Christmas program featuring our children and youth; the 18th is our

dinner with the men of St. Matthew’s Shelter.

Thanksgiving will

soon arrive. It’s

the season to re-

member the many

blessings we have

been given!

Welcome Mack Conner!

Mack officially joined

the Second Pres family

October 12! Mack is a

sophomore at McCallie

and a member of the

football team.

Third Sunday—nov. 16!

Save that date!

Youth, we are partnering with the Deacons to write and produce an Advent Devotional for the congregation!!! What a great opportunity to show-case the wonderful gifts God has given you. We’ll need everyone to help finish up this project.

Thanks!

Treasurer’s Report Greetings:

Presbyterian Women would like to wish the congregation a happy and safe Thanksgiving.

I would like to thank all of the individuals who helped with the lunches at the UTC Presbyterian House. The

students really enjoy these lunches.

Please join us for Memorial Sunday on November 2. This is the day that we celebrate the lives of those in the

congregation who have joined the Church Triumphant.

Sunday, November 16 will be Thank Offering Sunday. The Thank Offering continues the 100 year tradition of

supporting mission through the world and gives one-time grants for new programs gathering crucial needs for

persons who are hurting. There will be a luncheon that day with the proceeds benefitting Presbyterian Women.

On Sunday, November 30, the Northside Giving Tree goes up and will remain up through Christmas. We will be

collecting caps, scarves, gloves, and mittens. Thank you for your support.

Have a blessed month,

Teresa Robinson
