The challengeAccommodating rapid growth

Synchronoss is at the forefront of this screen explosion. The US-company is a world leader in providing cloud solutions and software-based activation for mobile carriers, enterprises, retailers and OEMs worldwide. Synchronoss’ solutions allow customers to connect, transfer, synchronise, store and restore content to multiple devices. More than 75 of the world’s largest telecommunications carriers use Synchronoss’ solutions, and the company has recorded growth every quarter since listing on the NASDAQ in 2006.

As consumers regard cloud as an essential enabler of their digital lives, and with Synchronoss’ carrier customers seeing hundreds of thousands of subscribers a week signing up to personal cloud products - the challenge for Synchronoss is not selling the idea of cloud, but coping with rapid global growth.

Synchronoss is ingesting in excess of one Petabyte of data every week and it predicts that today’s cloud demands are just the tip of the iceberg. Synchronoss points to ABI Research on the “Internet of Everything” that shows there were more than 10 billion wirelessly connected devices in 2013, with over 30 billion devices expected by 2020.

Cloud strategists like to talk of the “five screen world” where consumers regularly access content across desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones and smart TVs.

Expect to add screens six and seven in the near future: the smart-watch and the smart-car. From 10 billion wirelessly connected devices in 2013, we’re expecting 30 billion by 2020*.

Beyond photos, music and apps, Synchronoss is preparing for the day when consumers want to access wearable, health and car data, from any device or screen.

“Cloud is becoming essential to consumers around the world,” says Stephen Waldis, Founder, Chairman and CEO, Synchronoss. “Consumers view the data and memories on their device as important as the device itself, if not more so.”

The solutionCreating a smoother multi-device world

To step confidently into this future, Synchronoss wanted a cloud and hosting partner, not just a series of data centers, capable of handling large amounts of data. A strategic partner would allow Synchronoss to create and market a new suite of cloud services. It turned to Vodafone Cloud & Hosting Services.

“Synchronoss was looking for a partner which could scale, had the flexibility to support our needs and could handle all types of demand in numerous geographies,” says Anthony Socci, Regional Managing Director, Synchronoss EMEA. “Vodafone is that partner. The Vodafone team has the same mind-set as us, they brought a great model to the table and want to grow with us.”

“Cloud is a critical part of our carrier customers’ core communication strategy. It’s the new normal,” says Stephen Waldis.

“Having a white label cloud offering that sits inside their own, secure network allows carriers to own the customer relationship. We’re witnessing growing conviction for the importance of carrier branded cloud solutions, resulting in significant storage requirements which is why we are excited to partner with Vodafone.”
