The regulations state that members must:

“…undertake and record appropriate lifelong learning and, on request, provide RICS with evidence that they have done so”

… members should plan, carry out and record an annual programme of learning activities designed to maintain competence and improve professional knowledge.

The objective of the interview is to ensure that you have the minimum level of competence in carrying out the work of a Chartered Surveyor,on behalf of a client or an employer.

It is a practical test assessed by practising surveyors

Graduates: Objective of a Critical analysis

3000 word report analysis of a project (or series of projects) with which YOU have been involved during your training.

The report (30%) must conclude with critical appraisal of the outcomes and a reflective analysis of the experience gained.

High standards of behaviour in professional and personal life are expected of all members:

1. Act with integrity - This means being honest and straightforward in all that you do.

2. Always provide a high standard of service - This means always ensuring that your client, or others to whom you have a professional responsibility, receive the best possible advice, support or performance of the terms of engagement you have agreed.

3. Act in a way that promotes trust in the profession - This means acting in a manner, both in your professional life and private life, to promote you, your firm or organisation you work for and the profession in a professional and positive way.

Your preparation

• Review your professional development – what could be asked?

• Review your experience against your chosen specialism and its list of mandatory, core and optional competencies – think of examples you can give in the interview illustrating levels reached

• Review your case studies – what lessons were learnt, what could you have done differently – what else could be asked?

• Prepare and rehearse your presentation and think through examples of your leadership skills and managing people and resources

• Revise the RICS Rules of Conduct, Ethics, RICS top issues and culture (Red Book)
