Mind-reading trick

Now, it’s your turn to be magicians! Get intothreegroupsandmovetodifferent

stations, each with a magic trick for you to conquer. When you’ve mastered your trick, showittosomeonenotinyourgroup.Tryoutall the tricks.

Station 1 – Saw a person in half• CutyourA4sheetofpaperinhalf

longways.Drawastickpersontofilltheslipofpaper.

• Tapeyourenvelopeshutandcuttheendsofftheshortsidestomakeapapertube.Trimyourpapertubeto15cmlong(seeillustrationA).

• Ononesideofthepapertube,about2cmfrom each end, cut slits big enough to fityourperson.Makesureyouonlycutthroughoneside.Thesidewiththecutsisthebackofyourpapertube.

• Slipyourpersonthroughtheseslitssoitsbodyisn’tinthepapertube(seeillustrationsBandC).

• Nowcomesthemagic!Carefullycutjustthepapertube(notthepaperpersonintheslits).Toyouraudience,it’lllooklikeyou’resawingthepersoninhalf(seeillustrationD).

Station 2 – Disappearing coin• Holdthecoinbytheedgesbetweenyour

thumb and index finger. • Usingyourotherhand,pretendtotake

the coin but actually knock it into your originalcoin-holdinghand.Makeyouremptyhandintoafist.

• Usingyourmagicianflair,blowonyouremptyfistandopenittoshowthatthecoinhasdisappeared.

• Whiledoingthis,bringthehandwiththecoin in behind an audience member’s ear andmakeitappearfromthere.

Station 3 – Card magic• Asksomeonetopickacard.Getthemto

remember it.• Splitthedeckinhalfandgetthemto

returntheircardfacedown.Sneakily, look at the card that’s in the other half of the deck.

• Shufflealittle,avoidingmovingtheircardand the one you memorised.

• Lookatthedeckandfindthecardyoumemorised.Theirsisnexttoit!
