Flabbergast Theatre in Tatterdemalion Sat 21 May 7pm£7/£5(c) Friends £6/£4(c) On the day £12 Family Deal £20/£18(Friends)After Tatterdemalion visited Prema last season

we knew we just had to get the show back

and invite new friends and families to share

this hilarious, uplifting and deliciously naughty

theatre spectacle. Tatterdemalion introduces

loneliness and (be)longing to a rip-roaring sense

of joy and exhilaration through one man’s quest

for a friend in a world that can, at times, feel

mightily chilly. Riotous hilarity ensues as Henry

Maynard (originator of the Balkan bad-boys Boris

& Sergey) creates our loveable fool who may know

more than he lets on - without ever saying a word!

A really brilliant night out for audience members

over the age of eight – we promise you’ll leave the

theatre with a spring in your step and a massive

smile on your face! Mega-affordable tickets too!

Spitz & Co in GloriatorFri 10 Jun 8pm£10/£7(c) Friends £8/£6(c) On the day £15 Family Deal £25/£23(Friends)Another feel-good theatre show which is entirely

suitable for a grand night out for the whole

family. A hilarious new show revealing just what

happens when a glamorous French actress and

her hapless assistant attempt to stage their own

version of Hollywood blockbuster Gladiator …

Inventive, physical and very silly, Gloriator was

created by French/English female comedy duo

Spitz & Co. with the help of Spymonkey’s Aitor

Basauri and Angus Barr from Publick Transport.

Gloriator won the Critics’ Choice Award at Exeter

Ignite and was originally developed as part of

Bristol Old Vic’s Ferment.

Suitable for theatre-goers aged nine and over.

Stephen Mottram in The ParachuteThu 21 Jul 7pm£10/£7(c) Friends £8/£6(c) On the day £15 Family Deal £25/£23(Friends)An end-of-term treat for you and a UK premiere

for Stephen Mottram with his spellbinding new

show.

The Parachute is a funny and mesmerising story

of youth, love and confronting old age. Armed

with glorious, atmospheric music from composer

Sebastian Castagna and an armful of white

tipped wands, puppeteer Mottram conjures up his

characters from nowhere.

The Parachute plays with the way our brains make

sense of things we see and stealthily reels us into

a world of movement, populated by captivating,

non-existent actors.

Don’t miss this truly remarkable, inspiring piece

of science-theatre which is suitable for audience

members aged 9+

Club of No RegretsSat 18 Jun 8pm£12/£9(c) Friends £10/£8(c) On the day £15 It’s been twenty years since Club of No Regrets

formed as a performance conduit for the songs of

Uley songwriter Phil Harris.

Founder members Phil (acoustic guitar), and Ken

Lush (basses) are still there. Sarah Dowling-

Wilkinson (vocals) and Matt Hopkins (electric

guitar) who has been cutting up a storm recently

since working with jazz sax virtuouso Andy

Sheppard, complete the line-up of this dynamic

and exciting quartet.

Club of No Regrets paint a rich audio landscape

that playfully crosses styles of jazz, blues and

folk-roots in an exhilarating pot-pourri of sound

textures. The songs are beautifully constructed,

performed with verve and panache, and the

melodies infectious and memorable. Join the Club

- it’s a musical treat!

Rob Heron & the Tea Pad OrchestraFri 8 Jul 8pm£12/£9(c) Friends £10/£8(c) On the day £15 Rob Heron and his Tea Pad Orchestra have created

“North Eastern Swing” – a toe-tappin’ amalgam

of swing, blues, gypsy jazz and country music.

Their eclectic style has a distinct tang of early

20th century American music with the addition

of razor-sharp solos, opulent arrangements and

original songs - their music harks back to a

golden age whilst staying perfectly modern.

Rob Heron, a self-professed ‘crazy fool for

country music’ and a full-time dandy-cowboy,

writes the songs – each one brimming with

character, tinged with satire, and always given a

good old-fashion hollerin’.

Don’t miss Rob and the Tea Pad Orchestra’s

summery sounds at Prema, Gloucestershire’s most

intimate live music venue. Book good and early –

we’re gonna be busy!

Curtis Eller’s American CircusFri 5 Aug 8pm£15/£12(c) Friends £13/£10(c) On the day £18 Curtis Eller is a banjo player, songwriter and rock

& roll singer. After beginning his showbiz career

at the age of seven as a juggler and acrobat, the

Detroit native turned to the banjo and set off for

New York City where he rose to obscurity as “New

York’s angriest yodelling banjo player”.

Curtis Eller’s American Circus is a brutish and

inelegant rock & roll outfit specializing in banjo

music for funerals and gospel tunes for atheists.

Tonight, this tantalising, unsettling and energetic

troupe offer us a smorgasbord of glittery show

tunes, sentimental tear-jerkers and rock & roll

rave-ups whose lyrics are populated with two-bit

prize fighters, Hollywood has-beens, lapsed

gospel singers and forgotten pop stars. Sounds

punchy!

Make sure not to miss this unforgettable night of

vaudevillian spectacle and damn-fine toons.

The EskiesThu 18 Aug 8pm£12/£9(c) Friends £10/£8(c) On door £15 Having been cast-out, blacklisted, rejected and

ejected from gentlemen’s clubs far and wide, five

dejected cast-asides joined forces in what was to

be their own celebration of commonality, creating

a unique sound in the folk-noir genre.

The Eskies are purveyors of fine music that

meanders from a sea-soaked waltz to an Italian

tarantella, lamenting its way from a brassy funeral

march to a weep-along Klezmer knees-up and

percussing from a chain-gang holler to ragtime

finger-snap. The band has brought this distinctive

blend of folk noir/gypsy-jazz/sea-shanty (always

with with a swaggering stage spectacle) to

ballrooms and booze-houses far-and-wide,

inspiring much toe-tapping and some cray-zee

dance moves from the audience. Don’t miss the

inimitable Eskies for their sweltering summer

Anna Harley25 Apr-5 JunAnna Harley’s work is rooted within the landscape

tradition while the metallic inks and muted

colour palette she uses provide an echo of her

Scandinavian background. Anna’s inspiration

comes from the landscapes of her childhood and

the countryside around Bristol where she now

lives.

Verging on the abstract, her tree forms are often

cropped and focus on the silhouettes and negative

spaces between the branches. To produce her

screenprints, Anna uses a combination of drawn

marks, digital photography and objects directly

exposed on the screen. These individual print

layers are then registered and printed on top of

each other to make up the finished work. Since

completing her Masters Degree in Print at UWE,

Anna now produces her work at Spike Print Studio

in Bristol.

Chris Dunn25 Apr-5 JunChris Dunn is a young illustrator based in Calne,

Wiltshire. From 2013-15 he was resident artist at

the Pound Arts Centre in Corsham and during

that time was commissioned to work on a series

of forty-one watercolour illustrations for the

prestigious Galerie Daniel Maghen, Paris, which

are due to be exhibited July 2016. Chris’ painting

style takes inspiration from artists such as Arthur

Rackham, Alan Lee and John Howe.

The content of his most recent work is heavily

influenced by the quintessentially English

children’s stories of Beatrix Potter and Kenneth

Grahame’s ‘Wind In The Willows’. In this series,

atmosphere, nostalgia and narrative combine to

form a magical backdrop, allowing his anthro-

pomorphic animal characters to interact with one

another in their own highly detailed world.

Mary-Rose Young25 Apr-5 JunMary Rose Young is a ceramic artist whose

distinctive and instantly-recognisable range

of flamboyant, colourful pottery needs no

introduction. Each hand-thrown ceramic piece is

fiercely colourful, powerful in its form and design

but always brimming with playfulness.

Much of Mary Rose’s work uses the characteristic

“rose encrusted” motif but she has continually

expanded her range of shapes and designs, using

gold lustre across a range of goblets and vases

encrusted with jewels. Gold has become a stronger

theme in her range while candlesticks, mirrors,

toilets and clocks have all joined the original

mugs, jugs and vases.

Her bold, vivacious style of ceramic decoration is

instantly recognisable and Mary Rose enjoys an

ever-expanding number of new collectors of her

joyful and exuberant functional ceramics.

Sophie Rae20 Jun-31 JulSophie Rae is a printmaker who favours a

spontaneous printing process. She likes to work

quickly, building up her prints with layers of

transparent printing inks. Sophie has used this

process since experimenting in the print rooms at

The Arts University Bournemouth, from where she

graduated in 2011.

Her work takes its inspiration from the scenery

during her travels and the natural world around

her. One particular source of inspiration came

from a recent trip to India where she was

undertaking a residence at Chhaap Printmaking

studios in Gujurat.

She now works from a shared studio in Hamilton

House, Bristol. Look out for Sophie’s printmaking

workshop at Prema on Sunday 17th July (see our

Ashley Percival20 Jun-31 JulAshley Percival is an illustrator who currently lives

in London. He, like so many artists and makers,

takes his inspiration from wildlife and nature,

although the humorous and sometimes unsettling

modifications come from his imagination and

some of the darker/sillier recesses of his mind.

Since graduating in 2010 Ashley’s artwork has

been licensed across a range of products including

homewares, wall-art, greeting cards, clothing

and album covers. He uses a range of materials

to create his illustrations - he draws them first

and then digitally adds greater quirk and detail.

Ashley’s prints are playful and wholly suitable for

all ages, adding colour and a delicious oddity to

the nursery, kids’ room and teens’ bedroom. They

might equally take pride of place on any wall in

the home or workplace of someone with a keen

sense of off-beat, left-field waggishness.

forces to conceive their company; Papio Press.

Papio Press is an online-based company, creating

beautiful illustrated gifts and stationery. For their

showcase exhibition with us Harry and Zanna will

be showing framed prints of their work, depicting

friends of prema

The Friends of PremaWe have two kinds of Friends’ membership:

Life membership costs £150 – a one-off payment

which means that you will be a life-long Friend

and will not need to renew your membership

on an annual basis. This covers all people living

at your address and those within your party

booking.

Annual Household membership costs just £30

per year and covers everyone who lives at your

address. If you’re block-booking tickets for one

of our excellent performances or gigs, these are

eligible at the Friends’ prices too.

The monies raised via your subscription are

used to directly support many of our free and

subsidised events - Big Draw, Knitting Picnic etc.

- as well as helping us to update and refresh the

many resources around the arts centre.

How to book Bookings can now be made from our website -

www.prema.org.uk or by calling Prema on 01453

860703. Please note that from September 2016 we

will be making a £2 booking charge for orders

placed over the phone or in person at the arts

centre. Give booking online a try - it’s super-easy

to use. And there’s the added benefit of paying

via PayPal - the safest way to pay over the Net.

Family Ticket for ShowsOur family deal is for 2 adults and 2 children (or

equivalent). Ring 01453 860703 for more info.

Concessions (c)Concessionary rate tickets are for those who rely

SOLELY on a state benefit to survive. If you can

afford to pay the full price please do not ask for

a concession. The amount you pay invariably

affects the amount that artists earn.
