Preliminary Task

Page 2: Prelinimary Task

I used my flat plan as an influence and took photo’s around the college to use for my front cover and contents page.

I had to alter some of my original idea’s after finding that some of the images did not turn out as well as I had hoped.

Page 3: Prelinimary Task

I chose not to use this image as the strong lighting from the window caused my face and body to shadow. This would not be a good photo for a main image.

Page 4: Prelinimary Task

This image was another image that I felt was un suitable for my college magazine. The light from the window is making my face shadow. As well as this, I look un happy which could potentially put people off reading the magazine. Finally, the ‘learning centre’ poster is cut out of the image, which would not look good on a magazine cover.

Although I liked the fact that this image looked natural, and the plain background attracts more attention to the model. I felt as though using an image where the model is looking at the camera would connect with the audience more and draw them in.

Page 6: Prelinimary Task

I decided that this image did not work. I felt the background was too busy and would draw attention away from the model and any mastheads or coverline’s I add to the cover.

Page 7: Prelinimary Task

I really liked this image, however I felt a closer shot of the model would connect with the audience more. I felt a shot of this distance was not suitable for a magazine cover.

Page 8: Prelinimary Task

I liked this photo as I felt the way the model (myself) was looking into the lense will connect with the audience and draw them In. However I felt the bookshelf background was too busy and would distract the reader from the main image and the masthead.

So I decided to combine the last two photo’s as I liked

them the most.

Page 10: Prelinimary Task

So I deleted the background from the image of the model I preferred.

Page 11: Prelinimary Task

And I added it to the background that I liked and this is what I created.

Page 12: Prelinimary Task

However I felt the parts of the image (shown using green arrows) where too busy and un needed (such as the reflection of a car in the window)

Page 13: Prelinimary Task

Therefore I cropped my image and also changed the brightness and contrast.

Page 14: Prelinimary Task

I then cropped the image further and I was happy with the result I got. I like the fact the reader can still see the words ‘St.Peters’ in the background. I also think the plain brick wall will focus the attention on the model.

And this was my final result.
