Looking back at your Preliminary task, what do you

feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full

Product?

Lighting

• The lighting used during the Preliminary was low key lighting. This created a mysterious atmosphere to the scene.

• During the Main Task, the first scene which showed the scientist open Incubator 7, the lighting was very low there, adding the sense of mystery in the scene. Low key lighting is also a code of convention for a horror film, which was what we were aiming for.

Camera Shots• During the Preliminary, there were several

shots varying from high angle shots, long angle shots, over the shoulder shots etc.

• In the main task, we used a high angle shot to shoot a “security camera”. The use of a “security camera” gives the effect that they are being watched.

• In the Preliminary, there were a couple of close ups, showing unnecessary information.

• The montage at the beginning of the clip were a several close up shots of the equipment.

Editing• Using Final Cut Express during the

Preliminary was good practice. It enabled us to learn different techniques to cut from one shot to another (e.g. using cross dissolve etc).

• Although not many effects were used during our Preliminary, it gave us more time to experiment with editing the clip itself, rather than adding effects.

• Cross dissolve was used to create the montage at the beginning of the clip. The precision of each clip was also important because of continuity editing.
