PRELIMINARY EVALUATION SHEETQuality of Summary My honest evaluation- what

was done well and what was not of good standard? Try to cite specific example and moments from your video

Strategies put forward to make sure a high quality is maintained.

Quality of holding a shot steady

The camera was very steady as it was in aide of a tripod which equated in it not being shaky.

Place the tripod on a platform to get a steady and a high angle shot.

Quality of the framing shots There was not a variety of shots used in the clip. There was only three types of framing shots used which was a close up shot which was shown in the first two seconds of the opening with the officer opening the door into the interview room. It was use to quite a good standard as no movement was required. The other framing shot was the medium shot with the communication between the officer and the convict. It was to a satisfactory standard but because the officer moved forward towards the screen the camera altered to keep the actor within the shot. The last shot that was used was the medium long shot which was used to a good standard, the camera was set on zoom out and was able to catch both the characters body language.

To draw out a storyboard for each framing shot so we can plan out how we would carry out the shot. It would also be helpful if we had one or two people allocated to hold the camera and practice the framing shot.

Quality of shooting material appropriate to the task set- i.e. the content of your film pre and post editing was consistent with the exam directives

The tasked ticked all the requirements set for the group. It can be acknowledged that the officer walked through the door and made conversation and exchanged an object.

Quality of selecting mise-en- It can be recognized that the To do more intricate research

scène including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting;

setting did not set the scene of a police interrogation room as there was computers and posters on the wall. The use of colour was used quite well as it was just plain bold colours used for the walls and table which creates a subtle mood.

on the preliminary task for details that could feed in to the sub text of the story.

Quality of editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer

It can be shown that the editing was at a poor standard when the convict and the officer are in conversation which can be shown when the editors head moves his head and starts the line and is then cut back again and repeats the line he first started.

Practice more on the application imovie and pay clear attention to the seconds so it falls in to the time and the extract flows instead of stopping and starting.

Quality of using sound with images and editing appropriately for the task set;

No sound was used in the extract the only sound used was the opening of the door from the officer which was not intentional and the dialogue between the officer and the convict.

Emphasise the background noise to make the atmosphere and indicate to the audience where it is set.

Quality of positioning and movements of actors

The convict was sitting down showing the how he had no control of the situation and didn’t make any movements except for look at the officer. Whereas the officer shows her ultimate authority from the way she conducts herself. By the officer walking in and standing talking to the convict shows two different levels of status.

Research the character’s habits and lifestyles to give a naturalistic approach of the character in that situation.

Page 3: Preliminary Task Evaluation

Quality of group planning, meeting targets, organization

We was able to all get together and allocated the role of a script writer and we gave the writer the requirements for the preliminary task. As a whole we co operated well btu on the day of the filming a few members of the team were off due to illness.

Group dynamics i.e. how did your group work together

As a group we got together and we allocated each other roles which went well with our key skills. We was able have a basic script and we all had input on how to improve the script which went well.

Other points of evaluation ( e.g. equipment related etc)

We started off with the problem of having no tapes available but then we was able to find it. Part of the group had a turn with using the camera to get comfortable with it. This was because none of our group weren’t used to holding the camera. Using the imovie application in the mac made it an easy process to edit.
