Page 1: Preliminary Task

Brief

I am going to create a front cover for my school magazine at the start of my A-level course, I will create this because it will help me regain my skills using the editing software Adobe Photoshop CS6, other programmes such as: Microsoft

PowerPoint and Microsoft Word. I will take photos with a school camera (digital SLR), to take pictures of my model. The task will need a medium close up shot of

my model, to put on my school magazine front cover.

Page 2: Preliminary Task

Key image of white middleclass male student who looks confident. This suggests that he is passionate about the magazine and the school, however his tie is not on properly which suggests that he is a rebel.

Masthead of the front cover is the name of the school. The name Chosenhill is most likely to be a wordplay with the schools name and also the word ‘Chosen’ this suggests that the school is the best.

Main story of who is going to be the new head boy, this suggests that the school is a boys only school.

Secondary stories of the bands that are affiliated within the school. This suggests that the school has a wide variety of musicians in the school.

Puff/Splash: ‘free hand out’ suggests that the students aren’t willing to spend their own money on this magazine.

Masthead of the magazine is the schools title for the magazine and also the name of the school. The font colour also links to the whole cover.

Key image of student of the school, by her clothing I believe that she falls under the working class.

Key story of a new library that has opened within the school that is popular among the students.

Strap/Sell line which is probably the slogan of the school.

How often should the school magazine be published?

Daily? 11

Weekly? 9

In conclusion of the survey I have given my peers, I have come to the understanding that they would prefer to see sports results, they would prefer that the magazine would cost nothing, and a near split decision whether the magazine should come out daily or weekly.

Target audience: (age range, interests)Although it is a school newsletter you still have to think about your audience and how to appeal to them.

16 year olds as it will be a magazine aimed for 6th form students, the type of interests that they hold are usually aimed at the music industry, gaming industry and film industry. This is a school magazine so I will also have to incorporate academic aspects into the magazine as well as their overall interests.
