LGBTQI2S+ YOUNG ADULT SMOKING CESSATION: EARLY FINDINGS FROM A MARKET ANALYSISThissymposiumwilldiscusspreliminaryresultsfromaninitiativeseekingtobetterunderstandthecomplexdynamicsofsmokingbehavioursamongLGBTQI2S+inthreepilotcitiesinOntarioandQuebec.Theresultswillinformthedevelopmentofasocialmarketingcampaignaimedatchangingthesocialclimatearoundsmokinginthispopulation.
Thistopicisanimportantexaminationoftobaccouseinadiverse,oftenmarginalized,communitywheresmokingiscommonlyusedasacopingmechanismandameanstoconnectwithothercommunitymembers.MembersofLGBTQI2S+communitiescontinuetohavehigherratesoftobaccouse,whileotherpopulationshaveeitherremainedthesameordecreased.Theprevalenceofcigarettesmokingwas35%forLGBTQI2S+youngadultsaged18to24comparedtojust23%forsame-agedcisgenderheterosexualindividualsinCanadain2014.
