2 Setting Application Preferences

Use the Preferences command to access the option panels to set the application preferences for Automated Analytics. The Preferences command can be accessed from all panels of the modeling assistant:

Select File Preferences , or press the F2 key.

Click the corresponding icon to access the options you want to edit.

You can also perform the following actions:

● Use the Reset button to restore the default settings of the current option panel.● Use the Reset all button to restore the default settings of all the option panels.

3 Setting General Options

Use the General panel to set preferences such as the interface language, country, and message levels.

1. Select File Preferences , or press the F2 key.

2. Set the options using the possible values described in the table.

Country Sets the country-specific format of dates and num­bers.

Option Definition Possible Values

Message Level Indicates the level of messages that should be dis­played by the interface. The messages that are dis­played are those corresponding to all the levels from 0 up to the level indicated.

○ 0: error messages displayed in a pop-up window○ 1: information displayed in a pop-up○ 2: obsolete○ 3: phase message saved in the log file○ 4: detailed information saved in the log file○ 5: warning messages saved in the log file○ 6: progress messages displayed as a progress

NoteEach level also displays the messages from the previous level (for example, level 1 displays infor­mation messages and error messages).

Log Maximum Size The maximum number of lines displayed in the log when generating or applying a model. When the de­fined number is reached, the oldest lines are deleted.

Message Level for Strange Value

Sets the level of messages to use when strange val­ues are detected in the data sets during the applica­tion of a model.

Strange values are missing values or values that are out of range in the application data set when com­pared with the training data set.

When the level is set to a number over 6, the mes­sages do not appear in the interface.

○ 12 (default)○ A positive integer

Display the Parameter Tree

Indicates whether or not to display the parameter tree in the model debriefing panel.

Unselected by default

Number of Stores in the History

Indicates how many stores should be displayed in the history.

○ 5 (default)○ A positive integer

Always Exit without prompt

Indicates whether or not a confirmation is required when closing the application.

Unselected by default

Include test in default cutting strategy

Indicates whether or not to use the test data set in the default cutting strategy.

The standard default cutting strategy is "Random with no test". By activating this option, the default cutting strategy will be set to "Random".

Sets the separator used in SQL statements gener­ated by the application.

4 Setting the Store Options

Use the Stores panel to customize the options related to the stores (or data sources) manipulated when modeling.

1. Select File Preferences , or press the F2 key.

2. On the Stores panel, edit the options according to the following table:

Default Store for Apply-in Data Set

Indicates the store to open by de­fault when selecting the input data sets for a model application.

○ Last Store Used for the Application Data Set: This allows you to set the last store used for a model application as the default.

○ Store Containing the Model Training Data Set (default value): This allows you to set the store containing the training data set as the default store.

Default Store for Apply-out Data Set

Indicates the store to open by de­fault when selecting the output data sets for a model application.

○ Last Store Used for Apply-out: This allows you to set the last store used for a model applica­tion as the default.

○ Store Containing the Model Training Data Set (default value): This allows you to set the store containing the training data set as the default store.

Default Store to Save Models

Indicates the store to select by de­fault when saving a model.

○ Last Store Used to Save a Model (default value): This allows you to set the last store used to save a model as the default.

○ Store Containing the Model Training Data Set: This allows you to set the store containing the training data set as the default store.

3. Click OK to save your changes.

5 Setting Delegation to APL for Model Training

For models using SAP HANA as a data source, by default model training computations are delegated to the Automated Predictive Library in SAP HANA when possible.

The conditions described below must be met for training delegation to happen. In cases where delegation is not possible, or if the option is unselected, the Automated Analytics modeling engine does the training computations.

Prerequisites for APL delegation:

● APL (version 2.4 or higher) must be installed on the SAP HANA database server.● The minimum required version of SAP HANA is SPS 10 Database Revision 102.02 (SAP HANA 1.00.102.02).● The APL version must be the same as the version of SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analytics desktop or

server.● The SAP HANA user connecting to the ODBC data source must have permission to run APL.

RestrictionCases when model training is not delegated to APL:

● In the Recommendation and Social Analysis modules.● When the model uses a custom cutting strategy.● When the model uses the option to compute a decision tree.

To unselect the default behavior:

1. Select File Preferences , or press the F2 key.2. On the Model Training Delegation panel, unselect Delegate the model training to SAP HANA APL when

possible.3. Click OK to save your changes.

When editing preferences, you can restore the original settings by clicking the Reset button.

6 Setting Native Spark Modeling

Thanks to Spark, Automated Analytics models can run on Hadoop with better performance, higher scalability and almost no data transfer. For models using Hadoop as a data source, by default model training computations are delegated to the Spark engine on Hadoop when possible.

The conditions described below must be met for training delegation to happen. In cases where delegation is not possible, or if the option is unselected, the Automated Analytics modeling engine does the training computations.

● SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analytics version 2.5 or higher must be installed.● A big data environment must be available on Hadoop.● A connection to Hadoop using Hive ODBC driver must be configured as described in the Connecting to

your Database Management System guides.● The installed versions of Hadoop distribution, Hive and Spark must be the same as the ones mentioned in

the PAM.● The ‘Spark Connectivity’ jars and connection files provided with SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analytics

installation must be correctly configured as described in the Connecting to your Database Management System guides.

NoteFor more information about setting up the connection to Hive and Native Park Modeling, refer to the Connecting to your Database Management System configuration guides on the SAP Help Portal at http://help.sap.com/pa#section5

RestrictionAutomated Analytics only supports Native Spark Modeling for training classification models with single target and with random cutting strategy. For all other types of models and advanced features, the application switches to the standard modeling process.

To unselect the default behavior:

1. Select File Preferences , or press the F2 key.

2. On the Model Training Delegation panel, unselect Use Native Spark Modeling when possible.3. Click OK to save your changes.

7 Setting the Metadata Repository Options

By default the metadata (descriptions) for a data set are stored along with the data. You can define a separate repository where data descriptions are stored from the Metadata Repository options panel.

You can also edit the variable pool content from this panel. For more information, see the related topic.

1. Select File Preferences , or press the F2 key.

2. On the Metadata Repository panel, select Store the metadata in a single place.3. Select the type of store where the metadata will be saved in the drop-down list Data Type.4. In the Folder field, browse to the metadata repository location.5. If authentication is needed to access the metadata repository, enter the user name and password in User

and Password.

8 Editing the Variable Pool Content

You can edit variable parameters and variable structure from the Metadata Repository options panel.

The variable pool allows you to save variable descriptions. When describing a data set, if a description already exists for a variable in the variable pool, the application uses the description. Otherwise, the description is estimated using the first hundred lines of the data set. Once a data set has been described, any or all the variable descriptions can be stored in the variable pool.

1. Select File Preferences , or press the F2 key.

2. On the panel Metadata Repository, click the button Edit Variable Pool Content3. On the panel Variable Pool Content, edit the parameters according the following table. Either select values

from the drop-down list, or double-click the column to enter a value.

Parameter Definition Possible values

Storage The storage type of the variable. ○ number○ string○ integer○ date○ datetime○ angle

Value The value type of the variable. ○ continuous○ nominal○ ordinal○ textual

Key The key level of the variable, where 1 corre­sponds to the primary key, 2 to the secon­dary key, and so on. A zero (0) means the variable is not a key.

Integer (starting from 0)

Order A number different from 0 indicates that the variable can be considered as a natural sort order for the cases. An example of such a variable is a date or a customer ID. When such variable is present, SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analytics Com­ponents can use the information to enhance the cutting strategy.

Integer (starting from 0)

Missing Indicates a specific code for missing values. The default value is 'null', which is used most of the times. However, database systems can have their specific code for missing val­ues, such as '99' for two digit numbers or "unknown" for some categorical information.

Parameter Definition Possible values

Group Assembles variables that belong to a single semantic group. For example, when it comes to disjunctive coding of categorical variables: all of the variables can take Boolean values, but when one of the columns is activated all the others are deactivated. This can forbid transforms (and thus models) to take into account cross studies between variables be­longing to the same group.

Description Comments describing the variable.

Structure Defines the variable categories grouping. A variable structure can be extracted using the variable statistics, or you can define a varia­ble structure from scratch.

To define the variable structure, double-click the icon in the Structure column. See the re­lated topic for more information.

○ Undefined. Automated Analytics date coder will automatically determine the category grouping depending on their interaction with the target variable.

○ Non-editable. The structure for an ordinal string variable cannot be modi­fied.

○ Defined by extraction from the varia­ble statistics.

○ Defined by the user.

NoteThe Index and the Name of the variables stored in the variable pool cannot be edited

4. Click Save Changes to save your changes.

9 Defining and Editing a Variable Structure

You define the structure of a variable by editing the variable pool content on the Metadata Repository options panel.

1. Select File Preferences , or press the F2 key.2. On the panel Metadata Repository, click the button Edit Variable Pool Content.3. Select the variable in the table and double-click the icon in the Structure column. A variable structure can

be in different states, indicated by the following icons:

○ Undefined. Automated Analytics date coder will automatically determine the category grouping depending on their interaction with the target variable.

○ Non-editable. The structure for an ordinal string variable cannot be modified.

○ Defined by extraction from the variable statistics.

○ Defined by the user.

About the Types of Variable Structures

Variable Value Structure

Continuous The structure for a continuous variable is defined by several intervals each made of:

● a lower bound ([ ]) that can be either open or closed,● a minimum value (Minimum),● a maximum value (Maximum),● a higher bound ([ ]) that can be either open or closed.

NoteAll intervals must be adjacent: there can be no gap or overlap between two intervals.

Ordinal The structure for an ordinal variable is similar to that of a continuous variable with the excep­tion of the bounds, which are always closed and cannot be modified.

NoteThe structure for an ordinal string variable cannot be edited.

Nominal The structure of a nominal variable is made of groups containing the variable categories.

Editing Continuous or Ordinal Variables

You edit ordinal variables in the same way as continuous variables except that the bounds of ordinal variables are always closed and cannot be modified.

Create a New Interval 1. Click the button Add to create a new interval.2. The dialog Select an Option is displayed.3. Enter the minimum value for the interval in the left text field (]).4. Enter the maximum value for the interval in the right text field ([).5. Check the option Add Missing if the missing values must be grouped with this inter­

val.6. Click the button Yes to validate the defined interval.

Split an Interval 1. Select the interval to split.2. Click the button Split. The selected interval is automatically split into two equal inter­

vals.

Merge Two Intervals 1. Select the intervals to merge.

NoteYou can only select adjacent intervals.

2. Click the button Merge.

Delete an Interval 1. Select one or more intervals.

NoteYou can only select adjacent intervals.

2. Click the button Remove.

The previous and next intervals are extended to include the values formerly contained in the deleted intervals, so that no gap is left between intervals.

Editing Nominal Variables

Create a New Group 1. Enter the name of the group in the field next to the button New Category (on the right lower side of the panel).

2. In the section Category Edition (right upper side of the panel), select the newly cre­ated item.

3. Click the button Add New Group. The newly added group is displayed as a folder in the section Group Structure (left upper side) and it is automatically highlighted.

Include Missing Values in a Group

1. In the section Group Structure (left upper side), select the group to which you want to assign the missing values.

2. Click the button Add Missing (right lower side of the panel). The KxMissing category, which represents the missing values, is added to the selected group and the button Add Missing is deactivated.

NoteThe KxMissing category can only belong to one group at a time.

Create a Category and Add it to a Group

1. In the section Group Structure (left upper side), select the group in which you want to add the new category.

2. Enter the name of the category in the field next to the button New Category (right lower side).

3. Click the button New Category.4. Select the newly created category in the section Category Edition (right upper side).5. Click the button Add Category.

Delete a Group 1. In the section Group Structure, select the group to delete.2. Click the button Remove Group. All the categories belonging to this group are re-

transferred to the section Category Edition (right upper side).

Remove a Category from a Group

1. In the section Group Structure (left upper side), select the category or categories you want to remove from the group.

2. Click the button Remove Category. The selected categories are removed from the group and re-transferred to the section Category Edition (right upper side).

10 Setting the Graphic Options

You can customize graphic display options from the Graphic panel.

1. Select File Preferences , or press the F2 key.

2. On the panel Graphic, edit the options according to the following table:

Graphic Theme Customizes the user interface.

The SAPContrast theme is a high contrast theme for users with visual disabilities. None disables all themes and allows you to use your operating system accessi­bility features.

Font Size Defines the font size in the interface. ○ 12 (default)○ Positive integer

Profit Curve Points Number of points displayed on the profit curve charts. ○ 20 (default)○ Positive integer

11 Customizing the Report Style Sheet

Using the Report panel, you can customize the look of your reports and charts by changing the predefined style sheet, or creating your own style sheet. You can also add a personalized report banner.

Select File Preferences , or press the F2 key, then select the Report panel.

Customized Banner

To set a customized banner for reports, in the field Report Custom Banner, select the image file. The possible formats for the image file are: JPEG, GIF, BMP, PNG, and WBMP.

Selecting the Active Style Sheet

The default style sheet is SAP BusinessObjects Predictive Analytics (default). Several other predefined style sheets are available. To select a style sheet to be used, select the Active button for that style sheet.

You can't edit the predefined style sheets, but you can make a copy and use it as the basis for your customized style sheet.

Creating and Editing a Style Sheet

1. Before you can copy or create a style sheet, you need to enter a location for the style sheet repository in Folder.

2. To create a style sheet, click . A style sheet with the name Style Sheet.krs is added to the list of style sheets.

To copy a style sheet, select it in the list and click (Copy). A style sheet with the copied name and a file extension .krs is added to the list of style sheets.

3. Select the new style sheet and click (Edit).

4. In the Report Style Sheet Editor panel, customize the report's general visual aspects according to the following table:

Select either Horizontal or Vertical depending on your requirement.

6. Click Report Items to personalize the display of each of the reports generated by the application (Overview, Executive Report, Analysis, KtcDebriefing, DeviationOverview...).To edit report items, expand a category on the left and select a report. The following table sums up the different options that can be set:

Visible Hide/display columns of a report item or even of menu items.

Check/uncheck the box Visible of the report item.

NoteThe Graphical option is only available if the report item can be displayed as a graph.

Switch Bar Orientation Set a different bar orientation for a spe­cific report item.

Check the box Switch Bar Orientation (if the option is activated).

Sort by/Sort Order Define a column to sort/order by and choose between ascending or descending order.

7. Click Save to save the style sheet.8. On the Report panel, click OK to save your changes.

When editing preferences, you can always restore the original settings by clicking the Reset button.

12 Setting the Geolocation Options

Use the Geolocation panel to define the base address where you will send your Geographic Information System (GIS) requests. A GIS is a system requiring a base address and that captures, manages, analyzes and displays all types of geographical data. For example, a GIS allows you to visualize tiles and sequences on Google Earth. After defining your base address, the generated URI will automatically begin with this address.

The address you define will automatically appear in the Tiles Debriefing and Path Visualization panels.

To define an address:

1. Select File Preferences , or press the F2 key.2. Select the Geolocation panel and enter the base address in Geographic Information System Protocol.3. Click OK to save your changes.
