Predator Center Kuusamo

~ Place where you can get acquainted with some of the large predators in Finland. ~

At the moment there are several bears at the

center. Foxes and lynx also reside at the Center, as

well as an elusive wolverine. Visits to the Predator Center are conducted

with a guide.

Bear is the biggest predator in Europe. It is the

national animal of Finland and Russia. You can`t see bears at winter, because they

hibernate on winters. Bear`s maindiet is plants and berries. They

also eat insects. After winter and hibernation they can hunt elks.

Fox is usually russet coloured and it is found

throughout Finland. Fox has been a valuable fur animal for ages. Fox is omnivorous, it`s main diet consists of

rodents, plants, insects and carrions.

Lynx is medium-sized feline. It`s the most

important predator in the woods of Europe and Siberia.

Lynx is the only wild living feline in Finland. It moves mostly at nights and twilight. It hunts especially hares and fowls.

Wolverine is the biggest marten animal in

Europe. Wolverine moves mostly at nights and twilight,

but it isn`t inpossible to see it at day. Wolverine`s main diet consists mostly of

carrions. Wolverine is an endangered animal.

The best known bear in the center is probably

center`s owners bearfriend called Vyöti. They walk in the woods together and even have slept with each others.
